Unhappy Help Finding replacement engine

Hey Everyone,

I have a 2011 335i xDrive (n54 motor) and it recently threw a rod and now there a giant hole in my engine block. Shop quoted me 14k to replace.... As much as I'd like to dump the car and wipe my hand clean with it I figured it'd be a good opportunity to turn this into a project car (waste of money I'm sure).

Can anyone point me to any known reliable places to pick up a new engine? I don't mind having one shipped but If I could find a local seller too that would be great. I'm on the west coast, Las Vegas area.

Here's the VIN if it helps: WBAPL5G58BNN21829

Edit: I tried to search eBay but I honestly don't know if the engines I am looking at are the correct ones or not. Really what I need help with is just making sure I am looking for the right engine, like where do I find the part number or something.

You have a N55 not a N54.

How did you throw a rod?

I'm not entirely sure, that's just what the shop told me. I was on a road trip in another state when it happened...

And really? I was under the impression this car had an n54 engine... just goes to show how much I don't know about cars...

If it helps I can upload the diag file the shop sent me, I'd have to go through and omit all of the personal info first but no big deal.

I mean like, is your car fully stock and all good on maintenance?

LCI cars have N55 engine. Execption is 335is are N54 even though they are LCI.

Yea the car is stock and maintenance was kept up. Hell not even a month before this happened I had a full transmission service and oil/filter change.

I was gonna suggest this too but first try looking on offerup/letgo to see if someone is selling one cheaper or local yards, you could even get lucky and make a deal with someone giving them your parts for the engine plus some money on top..
