Hi all, looking to purchase a set of tires for new wheels.

19x9 +24
19x10 +24

Looking to do 215/35 and 235/35. Was originally set on the Nankang NS-II, after hearing from a friend those are the tires he buys for all his different wheels and stretches them. He says no complaints on them and they are cheap.

Read some reviews on them and had everyone saying they were deathwish wheels in the rain or on wet roads.

Then looked up the Hankook V12 and read they are noisy, not good in wet, etc.

Then came across the Yokohama S.Drive tires. A few hundred more, but they are ultra high performance summer tires. Says not to use them in freezing temperatures. Obviously wouldnt look to get those then in mid-December in New York.

I was told I need a 30 sidewall in the rear because 35+ will be a guaranteed rubbing issue. Then someone else tells me I will be perfectly fine at 35 with no issues.

It is near impossible to find a 30 sidewall tire anyway at that size, and if I find any tires they are $1000+ or Summer tires.


So here I come to you, for a possible easy way out to find my new tires I will need. Any suggestions on good tires for DWS in those sizes?

You can't go with 215/35/19 and 235/35/19. It has too much diameter difference 2.1%. Maximum allowed for x-drive is 1%. The height profile is dependant from the width of the tyre.

Hm okay, so what about 225/35 and 235/35?

You have an e90? You can fit so much more tire. I'm all for an aggressive fitment, but why the unnecessary stretch?

How about a 225/35 255/30 setup?

I had 19's at one point, and they were a nightmare. I was rubbing day and night with only a lowered car on springs and rolled fenders.

The specs on those were

19x8.5 et 34 with federal tires (235/35/19)
19x9.5 et 33 with federal tires (265/30/19)

It was a miserable experience and I swore I'd never get 19s again. But I love these wheels and want them so bad. I plan on being on KWs for the summer, so when that time comes, I don't want to be at 255/30 knowing I can have some rubbing issues, so I'd rather be safe, and also have some nice honda stretch.

Also, if I were to do 225/35 and 255/30 would the rolling % be the within its limits? No right?

And do I need a 30 side wall or is a 35 side wall just fine?

No it's still over the 1%. Very little but i wouldn't take the risk.

Some how i think that's really weird that it rubs, because that setup is basic vendor recommended setup for trouble free fitment. I would go with 225/35/19 front and 255/30/19 tyres.

I know 19x10 et24 with 255/30/19 will fit without rubbing.

And when you get coilovers the situation should improve, because those are more stiffer.

If you really want to go with narrow tyres how about 215/35/19 and 245/30/19 difference is -0.5%.

Is 225/35 and 255/30 within the 1% if you are telling me that's what you would get?

Yes -0.7% difference and it's stock bmw factory size. Here is 19x10 et24 with 265/30/19 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=690211 and he tracks the car.

If you want more confirmation you can ask anyone who has 19x10 et20-25 with 255-265/30/19. By the way no matter what summer tyre you get it's going to suck at snow.

Why are you shopping for summer tires if you plan on them seeing snow, or temps below 40* for that matter? That makes no sense.

Either get two sets of wheels/tires or find an all season that *might* be able to get you through the bad stuff...

I'm not looking for summer tires, the only tires coming up were summer tires.
