Crackling from speakers in E92

Hello all,

I have a 2007 328xi Coupe without the LOGIC 7 and without iDrive. Recently I've had a crackling sounds coming from my subwoofers when the volume is at a normal/high level and this results in zero bass. At very low volumes the sound is perfect.

The problem started a few weeks ago when I turned my car on without my phone plugged in (I always use AUX so that's what comes up when I start the car) there was a static sound coming from all the speakers. I turned the car off and on and the problem was gone and the speakers worked fine. The next night I got in the car and put my music on and there was a cracklings sound from the right subwoofer under the seat.

I've read the forums and people said to replace the amp, so I did just now. The problem is still there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I am about to drive up to school in a few days and I think I'll go crazy not being able to listen to music for 5 hours!

Try reseating the connector to the Head Unit.
Sometimes that works.

Also try changing out the aux cable.

You need a plastic pry tool to get off the Radio trim .
Do not pry near the corners of the trim.
Its not necessary to dissconnect the climate controls
there is plenty of cable to put them to the side.
After that two phillips head screws .
The main connector has a lever which you throw to disconnect.

Thank you for the quick reply, I'm going to check the connection at the back of the radio today.

If I were to upgrade to the AUX/USB input would I need a different HU, amp, etc? Only asking because I do not have a 2009+ model like the attached thread says.

Update:

Just tried re-setting the HU plug and still have the problem. Tried out using FM radio so I don't think it's the aux cord

You can get the BMW head units pretty cheap on ebay or here
but you have to program them for the sound system and options
you have or you will not get the correct sound or your options
won't work.
Aftermarket head units will get you more features but there are
some side effects that must be fixed or accounted for.
