Pricing will be near the mid-40's for the 335i. The coupes should start arriving in late Aug/early Sept.

Pricing will start around 42k for the 335i, and about 35k for the 328i which are purely estimations. BMW cant afford to lose customers by putting the 330ci's replacement 7 grand higher.

Multiple auto magazines have stated that, per their contacts, pricing will be near the mid-40's (..with a variance of about $1k between articles). Like many have stated in other threads (..and on other BMW forums), the 335i is set to compete w/ the CLK, whose base price is in the mid-upper 40's. Dealer reps have suggested to me that the cars base price will be around $44-45k. We shall see though. Good luck to those of you aspiring to own a 335i.

If that's the case BMW can expect to lose about half their sales to Infiniti and Lexus.

I highly doubt it. BMW has commanded market presence for decades, and prices have consistently went up, never down! There isn't a Lexus or Infiniti on the road that offers the road dynamics that the 3-series encompasses. I actually don't understand why many of you find it hard to fathom the fact that the 335i may cost upwards of 43k. The motor alone makes it worth the extra dough.

I just don't see the CLK as competition for the 335i. Different markets, entirely. First, you can't get a stick in the Merc. Second, the Merc handles like a boat. Third, the Merc pretty much costs $50k. And fourth, although I was in love with the CLK and its no-B-pillar style for quite a while (until I drove it), it's a chick car. The 350 engine in the "base" model is pretty strong, and delivers good fuel economy, but the 335i will tear it up, performance-wise.

I emailed my sales guy (at the largest volume BMW dealer in the country) just now for more info on pricing. If he says anything interesting, I'll post it.

BMW has stated that the 335i will be an upscale coupe offering much like the CLK, so it can be inferred that the CLK is the target automobile. Transmission designation & handling attributes make no difference here, and are entirely besides the point. BMW has generally out-performed its Merc/Lexus/Infiniti equivalents despite some power/pricing deficiencies, etc. Your logic is terrible! The 335i is entering the CLK's market as an upscale coupe.

F.Y.I., you probably emailed somebody at Crevier. I have many friends who work there as well.

I would like to see the links to the articles claiming 44k-45k. All I have seen is between 40k and 42k to start. My dealer said low 50s with EVERYTHING in it was the rumor.

If we take the option pricing from the military sale file and add EVERYTHING to 40k, you get 52.5k; with 42k as the base you get 54.5k...

If 40k-42k is the starting point, most will sell between 47k and 51k is my guess.

I don't know why everyone is arguing about this. In 2003, BMW decided to move its coupe / cabrio 3 series range upmarket in an attempt to further differentiate the models inside the 3 series range. The coupe / cabrio were to be badged as 4 series although obviously this has been rethought.

So expect to pay more or stick to the entry level sedans

Why on earth are transmission and handling attributes of no consequence, except, of course, that someone buying a CLK probably doesn't give a damn about either? Besides, the 335i, even if it tops out at $50k loaded, the CLK can reach over $80k with options/AMG/convertible. The 335i is just barely approaching the BASE CLK in price.

Further, just because two cars have similar body styles and price points does not mean they are competing with each other. A Lotus Elise is a $50k car with 2 doors and no roof; does it compete with a Z4 3.0si? How about a Corvette? Of course not.

As for your brilliant deduction that I emailed someone at Crevier, I don't really need your "FYI," as I am the one who sent the email; thus I am naturally aware of who I sent the email message to.

Transmission designation does not determine whether two vehicles are within the same class of vehicle. Most Mercs/Lexus cars don't come in manual, and most BMW's do (..even though manuals make up a very small percentage of BMW sales); they still compete for market shares. That is the reason why you fail at logic. Your reasoning makes no sense. And furthermore, in most cases, an equivalently equipped Mercedes almost always costs more than the equivalently equipped BMW, same class or not. Again, your reasoning is terrible.

I think the 335's base will be below that of the current 325 sedan. They will save money by eliminating 2 doors and a seat and pass that savings along to the customer!!!

Trust me, we ALL know that. If you read some threads you may learn a few things. Gluck was trying to bring some levity to this thread.
