I like cleveland wedges they are nice. Right now I use mizuno irons which I love and my taylormade Driver, 3 wood, 2iron Hybrid and Putter, love Taylormade, wanted the R7 Irons but hit the mizunos better, o well. SKA, you should go ona luanch monitor, see what your launch angle is. If its around a 14+ then yes you will see a difference in the 1 degree it will travel lower for a little more distance, still not the correct ball flight but it will be better. You should try to get it around 12-13 something im still working on but that will give you optimum ball flight and distance.

Hahaha I just won a new Nike Sumo 2 Squared driver 8.5 degree on ebay for $210. I didn't think I'd win cuz I bid so low, but now I have another driver to play with. It comes with an Aldila VS Proto By You shaft in stiff. Anyone try that shaft?
I'll probably change shafts to my cheap favorite... Aerotech Powercoil 50. Sam Last edited by sambonator; 07-30-2007 at 12:43 PM.. Reason: additional info |

Never used either shafts, im into the Fujikura shafts. Im thinking about changing the shaft in my r7 425 9.5 but it costs more then a new club so im going to wait a couple months work on the launch angle and get a 8.5 r7 425 TP. Thats a good price for the SUMO though, leme know how you like the square head...it seems funky

Thats what I was told about the square drivers. They travel a little further and are MUCH louder, if you can get over the strange head shape you should love it!

That's what I understand about the Nike Sumo Squared (that it is loud!). I'll have to see if I can live with it or not. If not, it's back to ebay (or maybe this forum haha). I just checked price on the Aldila VS Proto shaft and its $180

If you keep it maybe it will speed up the group in front of you. It was almost annoying to hear. The square head was nice for me because I have a tendency to take it outside. It gave me a visual for the path.

From my understanding the Square heads spin a lot, and in turn go shorter... at least taht was the case with me, I still use my Nike Sasquatch with a prototype tour shaft.

But in any case, there is 1 issue with the driver, which I noticed, even as I bid on it. It doesn't have the USGA conformance mark, and they don't mention it. I'm not sure if you know, but a few months after the Sumo Squared was released, NIKE had to have a sort of "recall" program. Some early Sumo Squared drivers were found to exceed the USGA limits on COR due, according to Nike, to "unauthorized manufacturing variances." http://thesandtrap.com/equipment/clu..._sumo2_drivers Nike pulled all of the Sumo Squareds from store shelves, and replaced them with later manufactured and fully conforming heads, that include an additional colored and indented "mark" on the head, to differentiate the newer, "conforming" heads with the earlier heads with questionable conformance. Those who purchased the earlier heads were also given an opportunity to get it replaced by Nike during March and April of this year. Nike probably sold all of the questionable drivers off to clearance houses like Pro Shop Warehouse. According to Nike, some of the earlier heads "may" drive the ball 1 to 2 yards longer. Big deal... for recreational golf this won't make a difference. If I wanted to compete in a tournament under USGA rules, then I'd have to get a different driver or buy the new Sumo Squared. So any way, I'm sure the one I won on ebay is one of the drivers Nike pulled from the stores. Still a great deal . It appears these "questionable conformance" drivers are going for low to high 200's on EBay, depending on popularity of loft and shaft flex. $210 was a great price nontheless, especially considering the factory installed custom shaft. Sam P.S. Cleveland HiBore XL Drivers in 10.5 loft, right hand models, were also found to be non-conforming. In USGA sanctioned events, those with HiBore XL RH 10.5 drivers aren't allow to use them, if they aren't one of the newer ones with the additional conformance "mark" that Cleveland Golf has added to the drivers. I was just at a store when a junior golfer came in, because his coach told him to get the driver replaced with the newer HiBore XL with the conformance mark. |

I went to try out the hibore line; driver and 3 wood. Couldnt hit it. I hit my balls high already and adding that onto it i felt like i was popping them straight up. Great looking club though.

I love the Hibore line. The 5 wood I have is just as long as my Cobra 3 wood...go figure .
I do believe that there are a lot of legit golf club vendors on e-bay. I bought a driver and a Scotty Cameron putter before and they are both authentic. On the other hand, I see a lot of "replica/fake" golf clothes. I just wish that there was a golf site that offered group buys or really deep discounts. |
