N52 whistle after changing valve cover gasket...PCV valve?
Hello,
This is a follow up to my previous thread: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...php?p=23823328 The valve cover gasket was leaky and misfires happening. I got it fixed at a BMW Indy for $822 + Tax, Hazmat, & Shop supplies it came out to a grand total of $982. I thought it was a fair price, considering dealers charge around $1200 not including tax. After they changed it and started it up there was a whistle. The shop said it's possibly a clogged crankcase ventilation valve. It wasn't whistling before because the air was able to escape via the leaky valve cover gasket. My question is.....is there any way to replace only the crankcase ventilation valve rather than replacing the entire valve cover? Where is this PCV valve located? There are still 3 codes on the car (checked it with INPA) Cylinder 1 and 3 misfire and a VANOS code. I will be changing all 6 plugs and coils tomorrow. Car is a 2008 x3 3.0si with the N52 Thanks guys.

I believe there are rebuild kits for the PCV valve inside the valve cover but the plastic valve covers are also known to crack, so for me $300 is a good piece of mind to prevent another problem from occurring and saving time doing it yourself/labor (especially another ~$600 for labor if you don't do it yourself) |

Long shot, but make sure you oil filter cap is tight. I had same noise after I changed oil and the filter cap was tight, but not tight enough.

That is very important. My car misfired and threw codes when the filter cap wasn't completely tight after an oil change.
