DAB. Whats missing?
I'm not a big fan of DAB, had it on a focus st in the past and found it unreliable. However, I'm not a fan of having a function on my car that doesn't work either.
I have searched this topic but everything I find doesn't quite match up with my cars circumstance so I thought I'd just post up pictures and see whats what. My 2006 car came with ccc idrive and DAB from new according to the original bill of sale so it must have an aerial somewhere. A previous owner had the idrive upgraded to cic. I understand not all cic units have built in DAB? As its in the radio menu though I presume my unit does? So, am I just missing a module in the boot or something? As you can see in the pics there is a redundant couple of wires/plugs. Are these something to do with a missing DAB module? |

Maybe it's my app but the photos are very blurry.
DAB in a CCC car was achieved with the DAB module in the boot. Which you appear to have (left module in your photo). However with Later CIC headunits the DAB module is built in. From your post you have 2 possible scenarios that I can see: 1. The CIC retrofitted does not have CIC built in but previous owner though because he has the old DAB module in the boot it would work as per the CCC. So he coded the CIC to activate DAB. But this will not work. 2. More likely I guess. CIC has DAB module inside and needs connecting direct to the diversity antenna above the rear window.. Maybe some coding also needed. With CIC that dab module in the boot is useless. |

So I wonder if the 2 redundant cables on the right of the right module, ones pink the other black I think are the aerial cables that just need extending to the cic unit up front, or just one of them anyway. I suppose I could pull the unit out and have a look on the back to see if there is a pink socket for the dab aerial.

Or if you have a coding cable just read the part number from the CIC and we'll check. |

The part number confirms this. As ptpending has shown in the picture. DAB on CIC uses the green and yellow connections at the bottoms. I guess the previous owner though he could retrofit it with DAB from the CIC and code the CIC. This doesn't work unfortunately. |

i think it is possible to perform custom code to enable use of the external dab module

Ah right, that clears that up. As I said, I'm not fussed because I really can't see whats wrong with FM......nor can anybody else which is why the planned switch off never happened!!!!
A bit strange why it comes up as an option along with am and fm etc. Anyway, thanks for your replies, now time to move on and forget about it. |

You can code an aftermarket DAB module like Fistune as a CD Changer and then use DAB via this in the CIC. You don't access the DAB via the DAB radio menu, instead by the CD changer menu. It's ok, but would annoy me. |

I see the same on my E91 after coding FA with $654. I thought that if this was accepted and you could see DAB in the Radio list, it meant the CIC did have a DAB module?
