Am just about to put the $ down for xHp stage 2... but just some last questions I hope someone can answer:

1. Can I use Google Play store giftcards to pay for the app? Or do I have to use credit card (I've never paid for any app sort of thing on Google Play!

2. I've been reading about some issues with lurching when coming to a stop. Anyone else had that?

thank you

The xHP Stage 3 OTS maps are getting more confusing by the day. V1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2 are all amongst recommended maps. Version numbers should not be used to differentiate features. It would make a lot more sense to have some sort of structure like this, similar to MHD:

Stage 3 with flash-time options:
- D mode shift points - Low, medium or high
- S mode shift points - Low, medium or high
- Auto upshift in M mode - on or off
- Aggressive downshift throttle blips (beta) - tick box (off by default)
- Slower torque recovery after shifts - tick box (off by default)

Are the problems with flashing (referred to in earlier posts on this thread), now been resolved?

I just flashed stage 3 and it went smoothly. It shifts quick and rev matching is great.

I flashed mine over the weekend. No dramas.
Quicker than expected too!

If I use a battery charger, do I need to still ensure my car battery is fully charged before starting the flash process?

And how do you fully switch off the auto climate control? I realise there's no 'off' button. Should i just put it to manual, and bring the fan speed down to minimum?

No, the battery doesn't have to be fully charged, just hookup the charger to the car and flash, that's all that's there to it.

After bringing the fan speed down to minimum, press the low fan button one more time and the climate control screen turns off. That means it's completely off.

Mate, I flashed mine without using battery charger, I just made sure all lights and other electrics are completely turned off. Worked like a charm!

Battery charger is recommended, but it's not must. Because most owners have weak or old batteries... etc. A new-ish healthy battery should be able to sustain constant power delivery to the DME & TCU(EGS) modules throughout this whole flashing process with absolutely no dramas.

ash335: did you do stage 3? Happy with it?

serial driver: thank you. I never knew that was how to switch off the HVAC. I see you've got the MHD stage 1. Is that worth getting? I'm planning to get the XHP first, and then if that works, get the MHD

cheers

Yep, very happy.
Haven't given M-mode a good go yet though. A little worried about the auto shift at redline not being there!

Finally installed xHP stage 2!

Glad to say the install process went as described in the manual. Took about 35 minute for the backup, then another 15 minutes for 'initial' flash.

Then stage 2 took about 4 minutes.

THere were various gongs and warning signs during the flashing process.

Took it for a 20 minute drive. Changes in D mode seem a little more forceful. Seemed more responsive to light throttle inputs. But it still didn't drop down a gear on light throttle, even up hill. Surprising as the car stayed in 6th gear even up a reasonably steep hill. Until I mashed the throttle, in which case it dropped to 3.

I like the display of gear number in all modes.

Haven't tried M mode yet.

I'm surprised that it offered you both options. From what I know the 'IS' model was only sold in US and had slightly higher power output compared to normal 335I.

But I wouldn't have thought the app would offer you that option..

You should contact XHP on their FB. They're pretty quick to respond.

Not ash335, but I did the stage 3 flash. Yes, very happy with it. Version 1 was not much better than alpina, but they've made big updates since version 1.

I love it, manual mode shifts are lightning fast. Upshifts are so silky smooth you sometimes have to check which gear you're in from time to time.

Throttle blips on m-mode downshift are still a bit enthusiastic, but a new version is coming out in the next couple of days which will likely fix that.

If you connect xhp to your car it should read your model number and give you compatible maps.

There are definitely n54 135i maps there.

Yes, you want RHD Europe, but again, if you've connected to your car it should only show maps for your model.

Edit: mobile device keyboard

Fair enough. I haven't actually signed up or paid for anything yet, nor has my bloody DCAN cable arrived yet so i haven't hooked it up to the car either. Will shut up until its all connected.

Will be surprised if its better than the Alpina flash. Mine has lightning fast gear changes (up and down) with Alpina and even a 'fart' from 2nd to 3rd on a hard shift. Yoda reckons its the most responsive Step he's driven. Maybe I'm just lucky with that.

D is garbage so I'm sure its got to be better but Ive gotten used to just driving in M so I'm not actually fussed about D or S.

Actually no kickdown in M I'm looking forward to. Ive sunk my foot into 2nd gear in a drag and got 1st before........most embarrassing...........

It's the way they publish the maps - I expect it'll be fixed in a later release.

There's two version 1.2 maps, stock & single turbo; because ST is listed last, it's considered the highest version.

When you go to flash the Stage 3 map it lets you choose which version you'd like to install:

1.0
1.1
1.2 (stock)
1.2 ST

The ZONE335i: Have you received the DCAN cable and plugged the app into your car? It will only give you the maps that are suitable for your exact car.

I did the stage 2 recently and there was no option for single-turbo. However xHP confirmed it was only in stage 3. Apparently has later change-points.

Btw, the D mode in xHP is supposed to be better than Alpina (which I think was even more economy-focused than stock).

I take it you've not got a MHD flash (because it can be disabled via MHD).

Before I did any flashing I fixed that annoying problem using a 14mm nut and some electrical tape. (I just taped it to the body of the car behind the accelerator so it never pushes the 'kickdown' button).

It's low tech, but it works like a dream.

I used to wish my car would kick-down more quickly on mid-throttle in D mode!! example when changing lane... I'd hate how it would sit in 5th or 6th and the car behind me would almost hit me until my car finally kicked down...

Hopefully xHP will at least slightly fix that. haven't tested it much as I only drive on the weekend
