Contemplating DIY headlight retro for e92, have a question or two..

Ok so I have an e92 that i've been contemplating on doing a retro on for quite some time and i'm just now getting to the drawing board..

I notice many individuals and companies like OSS, 180 designs, etc.. use all different corner lens applications for the turn signal, but are those custom made generally, or is there somewhere to buy those turn signal led's from?

Also, aside from spending over $300 on Umnitza Orion rings, are there any others that do an equally good job for less than that? And perhaps an RGB set if possible?

Ok last, on many of the DTM style retro fits, they put an eyelid on the interior part of the headlight.. Is that part cut to fit, or do they also sell a custom plug and play eyelid for such retrofits?

Thanks!

I have ebay DTM style rings, have them for ~7 months already, no problem at all. ran me 70 bucks

the turn signal is up to you. i did not put any lens but only a LED reflector bulb

the eyelid is sold at aliexpress for 30 bucks (kinda a matte CF finish)

don't mind the bugs and cell phone quality photo

Yea i have been debating on doing this as well.

I am thinking of trying the ebay route, as long as it looks like quality.

The only thing I don't recognize on ebay are the ones that say they are "cotton" have you seen those?

But I do see both the one color and the RGB on there for around 100 already pre formed to our lights. Which is a bit less than Umnitza.

Any luck looking yet? I looked at my bank account this morning. Might have to attempt this soon since I don't have tons of money, and it looks like I'll have to stay in some nights, so Ill need a project to do. LOL

I choose one without RGB because,
first it looks fucked imo
2nd one with RGB is not well made as mine
3rd being one color is always brighter

as far as i remember, the DTM rings that "fit" a e92 is F30 size.

Easy to do and looks great IMO
Not sure about the turn signal
Price is no guide on rings tbh, ive had expensive one that failed in under six months and cheap RGBs that are still going strong
I got these CF eyelids for mine, they just fit inside the lenses, no cutting or trimming required
Also remember to run tape inside the upper inside edge of the lenses to prevent light bleed

Have attached a DIY guide for doing your own lights

All I want to know is how to make those cool turn signal shrouds. I have access to a 3D printer even.

Guys I see many go with dtm/u-shape AEs instead of usual halo rings on e9X. I'm just curious if you really like it or it's just a thing that we try and then unsatisfied look for something better soon again? The reason I ask is that I'm contemplating to change my lights too, but honestly I think rings go with e9X styling better than edgy dtm/u-shaped AEs - which imho go better with F30 edgier look. I like some pics in this thread tho, but I'm not sure if that look will grow on me or not Just wanted to ask your opinion guys, why you decided to go with it? Thanks

Look into bavgruppe and precision raceworks. Both sell DTM DIY kits.

If Vincent wasn't such a smart ass I'd consider BavGruppe, but myself and tons of others literally can't stand him.. He's way cheaper than OSS and the rest of the higher end custom headlight folks, but I just can't fathom the idea of supporting someone who's so immature and childish.. He bashes every vendor under the sun on Facebook, makes remarks and comments about peoples physical appearance (yet doesn't post any actual pics of himself online), and degrades peoples purchases when they buy from companies like VRSF, VTT, BMS, etc.. The headlights look dope, but if his attitude changed I bet he'd profit a lot more..

After a year of having DTM rings, I still like it. I mean I don't have a preference between O style or U style ring, O style is just a bit boring, if your car have enough mods to carry an aggressive styling headlight, do DTM.

Ps. I still hate people commenting the lights with "Oh that looks like the Newer BMW headlights!"

Any more pictures of how it came out on your car? Do you have Instagram? I'd like to see how it looks from different angles

I don't take a lot of pictures of my own car.

and having only a cell phone doesn't really capture the brightness or the LED of the rings.

hope this helps a bit, some of them are test fit pictures, not final product.
