you need to disable the "UIF/AIF update" in expert mode, per the instructions. That's why you got a VIN error. You shouldn't need to re-flash the RSA delete.

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately I'm still getting the security error issue (in the screenshot) running in comfort mode. Is there another location where I could have expert mode enabled?

I also found the usb driver update here: https://www.usb-drivers.org/ft232r-usb-uart-driver.html but unfortunately I still received the same security issue post-flash. It will go through the whole flash for the 128i-130i file, this takes about two minutes, and then I get the error message in the batch file window.

Well, you're getting the wrong ECU identifier error. Are you sure you have flashed the RSA delete? It's not actually erroring because of security access - it's because it doesn't think the ECU identifier matches the tune you're trying to flash (0049QK0M). Which tune file are you trying to flash?

Hey Hass

My flash file is: MSV80_S8608441_128i_to_130i_US.

My RSA Delete file is: MSV80_RSADelete_0049QK0MI20S

However, in an effort to try all possibilities, I tried to flash the RSA Delete in comfort mode in case there had been an error with this flash, and it made it all the way through the flash and then I received the security access issue once again.

Also, my new error message after trying to flash the tune (data) file once again is now not including the ecu identifier ((0049QK0M))

Did you set your cable's latency to 1? It's in the device manager under your COM port.

I can try that! In bimmerlabs, it looks like there are 4 available. Any advice on how I can determine which one I need? I have a 2009, 128i, N52, manual.

Well, I tried to flash the base map (8613000A.0pa) and received the same error in the screenshot below.

For context, I did this in expert mode with all the changes made in the config.

From all of my attempts to fix things and uninstall and reinstall bmw tools, is it possible I have some file missing or something in the wrong place? I've spent about 15 hours walking through every possible scenario I can think of to make changes.

I follow all the steps from bimmerlabs every time I flash. When I install bmw tools, I don't believe the folders in my C: drive. The only challenge I run into is when I run the batch file, WinKFP will stall as it's searching for the .ctl file so I copy and paste it into C:\EC-APPS\NFS\BIN and then WinKFP will run.

As with the RSA delete, 128i-to-130i, or the base map most recently, it will go all the way through the upload until it finishes, I continue in the batch file, and I receive the error message.

Will it flash in Comfort mode?

It doesn't look like there's anything wrong with your files. This isn't a generic D-CAN cable right?

I forgot to ask one other question. Are you using a Mac with Windows in a VM?

It will not flash in comfort mode, same error. When I switch the settings in the config and try and flash in comfort mode, when the batch file starts and winkfp opens up, I see something flash by that says expert mode. It makes me worried that I'm somehow stuck in expert mode, not sure if that's normal or not.

Yes, this is a Pro K+DCAN bimmergeeks cable brand new from two weeks ago.

Lastly, I'm using a PC desktop (currently sitting in my front seat) but I will remote access in from my work Mac to download/run files. I'm using splashtop. Could that be causing the issue?

At this point, I'd be more than happy to pay someone to assist or buy a stage fp tune if that's a possibility. Of course, I'll continue to work through the troubleshooting steps but I'm ready to get it working at this point, whatever it takes.

yeah, by comfort mode - you enter in your VIN and let it do everything for you. The batch flash doesn't work in comfort mode, it's specific to expert mode.

I know that using Windows from a VM can cause issues, but I don't think using a remote desktop window should be a problem.

I am kind of curious if something in a Windows update is causing issues because it's a little alarming there hasn't really been a problem in 4 years and suddenly there's two issues in one month.

If you can try comfort mode, I think that would probably be worth the effort. I am wondering if the issue with the VIN earlier has cause it to be stuck, but I think comfort mode should ultimately work. As a last resort, there's always bench flashing.

Yeah, it's very strange, I don't know if I came across a thread on the 1addicts site where anyone had an issue, I'm read so many positive experiences.

I'm really curious if it has something to do with the cable settings as that seems to be the solution for the original post.

Anyways, incase this might help, after I finally was able to flash in the RSA Delete the first time, I saw a VIN listed but it wasn't my VIN! That's when I ran into the VIN issue's and decided to start from scratch. Deleted all the files/bmw tools, re-downloaded and have had this security access issue ever since.

If it's of any help, my desktop is one I assemble about 6 months ago. I got it up and running and bought/downloaded the last version of Windows 10. In checking my software, I see that there's a pending Windows update. I doubt it's related but I'm updating now.

I tried flashing all of the different files in comfort mode earlier today but I'll do this again tomorrow now that I've updated my PC.

Wait, are you saying I should enter my VIN somewhere? Both in comfort mode and expert mode, I've never entered my VIN. I only entered my VIN when downloading the bimmerlabs files.

In WinKFP comfort mode, you enter your VIN, and it will select the updated file for you - yes.

Oh man, I'm not sure how I missed that step. Could that be the issue? I'm still not sure why I'd be having the trouble with expert mode.

I can't believe it! It worked!

First, I added the VIN and flashed the 130i tune - no luck. I then tried re-flashing the RSA Delete, and that worked. Then, I flashed the 130i tune, no issues at all! Car starts and runs no problem, no lights or anything.

While I'm confident I flashed the RSA Delete previously, I messed with so many things, it's possible it was not done right which is why I needed to reflash it again. Secondly, I'm still curious if updating my drivers yesterday is at all related.

Ultimately, I updated my drivers, added the VIN, and everything ran perfectly in comfort mode. While it was most likely the missing VIN that caused the issues, I would definitely encourage those who do this next to update the drivers.

I can't thank hassmachine enough for his help and support.

sweet! Glad that worked out. I'm not exactly sure what you did either, but I'd put money on the driver update.

I intend to update the instructions with some feedback I've gotten, including a note about adjusting the cable latency, and maybe making sure you have the latest driver (I think it might be there but it's a little buried). It's not always obvious to me where trouble spots could be.

Can we have driver revision numbers for the write up? I wouldn't put it past microsoft updates to F*** this up. Happens to me all the time working with control systems.
