Can I test my battery using the terminals under the hood??

On my 2008 BMW 328i the battery is in the trunk of course. Under the hood is the red capped terminal for positive and the stud from the fender identified as the ground. These are the two locations identified in the manual in case the car needs to be jump started. I have a battery load tester I have used for years. Occasionally I use it to see how my battery is performing on my other vehicles. Are those two terminals under the hood safe to use for the battery load tester on my BMW?

While I was battling with my intermittent battery drain issues, that's exactly how I was monitoring the battery. I posted a thread about installing and using a Ctek Battery Sense which makes life even easier in that I can now monitor the battery via my smartphone using Bluetooth connection and the Ctek Battery Sense app. Of course my battery drain issues was eventually sorted out, but I still wanted to be able to monitor this going forward.
