If your use case is simply to code injectors with INPA, I recommend installing INPA for F-Series as opposed to BMW Standard Tools 2.12. It's a lot simpler to install as it's only a single tool (INPA) for diagnostics.

PM shawnsheridan if you need a download link to INPA for F-Series.
So I used the version he sent. It looks a little different. There's like red zones which I assume just indicates the out of range area. All the other tutorials I've seen it was all green in the bar.

I was able to code in the injectors using the guide and installation files provided by shawnsheridan. Big props for his help along the way.

I have windows 7 64 bit. You install BMW tools and INPA in XP SP3 Compatibility mode as well as open INPALOAD the same way.

To save you guys some time and sanity, I've uploaded both the entire INPA 5.0.2 package and the extracted CFGDAT/SGDAT directories to Google Drive. I'm not, like, an expert on this stuff, but it doesn't seem like the DAT directories contain any system-specific information, so you should be able to use them instead of going through the painful download-install-nuke process. Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

On the off chance Google decides I'm violating their TOS or bandwidth limit or whatever, here's what I did to download the package in under an hour:
  1. Grab aria2 from here. It's a decent command line downloader. You can use your own, of course, should you have a preferred one.
  2. Use aria2 to download one of the Wayback Machine's incomplete snapshots of the file. I used this particular snapshot, which is about 400 MiB. There are no complete snapshots as far as I can tell.
  3. After the download errors out, use aria2 to resume it from the original link, passing the -x 16 command line argument to get better download speeds (250 KiB/s or so). Hopefully the web host administrators don't notice.
In short: unzip the aria2 package somewhere, open a command line and run these commands:
Code:
aria2c https://web.archive.org/web/20111025111040/http://www.sinodownloads.com/down/download/ecutool/350517-inpa%20k+can.rar
aria2c -x 16 http://www.sinodownloads.com/down/download/ecutool/350517-inpa%20k+can.rar
Anyway, horrific web host aside, thank you for the guide!

I've been coding my car for two years now and maintaining my own XP vm. And everything seems great until I try something new I've never done before. Used to just use NCSexpert for coding, now I'm getting into work that demands INPA and tool32. I'm finding the deeper I get the more I'm lacking proper data files or english translations.

For example all of my INPA menu items are english but all the labels for the readouts are german still. Ugh, back to the drawing board.

This post seems the most thorough so far, but also very complicated. And from the screenshots doesn't appear to have my model (e90) listed in INPA. A problem I've seen in other versions.

I don't understand why someone hasn't supplied a 'gold build' virtual machine that contains the latest and greatest, in english. I have no desire to install any of this on my native system as it clutters the root file system. I think a VM is the best solution and it's portable.

Could someone just do this once and post a windows 7 or XP image on a torrent tracker? I would happily do this but it appears that I still have a lot to learn. It's like peeling back the layers of an onion.

Sorry if I come off as a little dickish. I'm just really baffled why the experts haven't just cut an image that works every time, called it a day, and saved a lot of discovery and headache and forum clutter for all of us.

If you want a VM pre-built for you to run software that you can't install yourself, much less understand, check out this thread:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1220039

Next time use the search function rather than posting whiny, off-topic posts.

Welcome to my ignore list.

Trying your condensed copy with your instructions, its failing on step 3. Thanks for putting this together. If I can get through this process and it looks solid I'll post the resulting vm image somewhere.

Wow I don't know how to thank you for finding this VM image for me while also telling you to go f#$k yourself at the exact same time. Utterly rude and unwarranted.

You don't think I've read endless forum posts for two years now? You don't think I have a gigantic coding spreedsheet containing countless links, documents, codes and translations?

"Next time use the search function rather than posting whiny, off-topic posts." This is the most bullshit phrase that jerks like you pull all the time. Just stop it. You're being silly.

I'm very computer literate. I write embedded systems software. That doesn't get around my point that information is littered in unorganized, lengthily forum threads.

"..run software that you can't install yourself, much less understand". Come on, please. My comments were about obfuscation of the available information. Not about my aptitude. I've been running all this software, I kind of already said that.

This would have been a more decent reply "If you want a VM pre-built check out this thread:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1220039" Because it was exactly what I was looking for and failed to find through my own efforts.

Reading 14 page threads * N threads, not knowing if the information is current or relevant, is not an effective way to learn.

I don't believe that what I said deserved that kind of reaction so I'm proud to be on your ignore list.

Try moving the 01_Step1 directory to C:\ and installing from there. I think that particular installer doesn't like paths with spaces.

I've got this setup on my computer with the cable settings on com1 and latency set to 1 as well. It will communicate to the point where the battery and ignition bubbles are black, as well as read codes, but it keeps coming back with an error code "IFH-0009 NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROL UNIT" whenever I try to access modules (abs dynamic stability for example).

I wasn't sure where I'd got my first cable. So, I bought a new cable from a recommended site online from this thread. It came in, I made sure the com and latency settings were 1 and I still run into the same problem.

Any help would be wildly appreciated. I've had my car (07 328i) parked for the past 5 weeks and I'd like to get it back on the road at this point.

If you can access the engine and gearbox ECUs but not anything else, your cable doesn't have pins 7 and 8 linked. See this page for the pinout. All you have to do is solder them together.

I can access some things like tire pressure and some other random things, but whenever I try to access any of the 3 links under transmission, I get that same error. Same goes for the dynamic stability control links under chassis. Again, I have 2 cables, one of which came from the b I m m e r s o f t w a r e website.

BMW Standard Tools 2.12 includes WinKFP. It's the latest (last) release of these rework tools. Windows 10 works fine.

That was fast, thanks!

What if I want to code multiple cars?
Do I have to import and copy files every time I switch to another model?
Do I have to "clean" first, or can I just overwrite?

Just to make sure, I don't copy/import anything E89 related?
So all the copy commands i replace E89 with E46, same with the import stuff in WinKPF?
