Sorry, can't help with that. This DIY doesn't utilize third-party tools.

Did you set default folders in BMW Coding Tool? Look in the settings menu.

I think it's because NFS is missing some folders. Make sure you're C:\EC-APPS\NFS folder structure is like this and set it as your default NFS folder.

Your discussion is completely off-topic and doesn't apply to this DIY. Please take it to private messaging or start your own thread. Thanks.

I have an E70 with the M57TU2/top engine and due to current sudden engine stops (that I beleive has to do with injector/fuel supply malfunction) I need to do a diagnose. But from what I can understand, the "setup" presented in this thread won't cover the M57 engine family (?) So what do I do?

BMW Standard Tools 2.12 supports the E70 chassis. Rather than installing the E89 daten files, you would need to install the E70 daten instead.

INPA includes scripts for DDE 5/6 and the M57 engine.

Ok thanks!

Another question regarding power supplies: Will a Ctek 25A charger/power supply be adequate if I mainly do analyze and coding? Are the beefy power supplies recommended by BMW only necessary for flashing etc?

By the way, nice write up ! (forgot to mention that earlier..)

Thanks! Yes, most likely the CTEK will suffice for diagnostics and coding.

And yet another question...

I'm planning of buying a new note book and it seems possible to "downgrade" it to Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) from Windows 10. Something I should consider? (The downgrade I mean) If yes, then I solely follow this DIY (?)

INPA for E53

I ran INPA and E53 (X5) does not show up. I have the 4.4L M62 engine. I looked in 'Older Models', but it wasn't there either. How do I use it for E53?

If your primary use case is diagnosis and coding, I would stick with Windows 10. The Windows 10 version of this DIY can be found here:
DIY: How to setup BMW Standard Tools 2.12 w/Windows 10 x64 (64-bit)

If I've been able to help you, please click on the Appreciate button below. It's greyed out until you hover your mouse over it...

Did you install BMW Standard Tools 2.12 using this DIY?

The 2000-2003 E53s had a Bosch ME 7.2 DME and a M62TUB44 engine.

In INPA, it would be <F3> E53/X5 -> Engine -> ME 7.2 for M62 MJ 99...

I can't get INPA working correctly for the E70. I get the option DDE 6 for M57TOP/TU2 when I select engine but that leads to some kind of mismatch: "Versions don't match. Malfunction possible!" and next window: "Language variants dont match. Malfunction possible!" Proceeding leeds from what I can see only to a limited amount of functionality (or what to call it) I'm a bit cautious going much further here...

I read i another thread that the 335d has the DDE7.3 steuergerät for the M57TOP engine. Isn't that the case for the X5 35d also?

I am not familiar with that DIY, I suggest posting to that thread instead.

The version mismatch and language errors are explained in the original post under known limitations:

INPA
  • MEVD17.2 DME and N55 engine not supported, E90 German language development script required (outside the scope of this DIY)
  • DDE 7.3 and M57 engine not supported, E90 German language development script required (outside the scope of this DIY)
  • 2009+ electronic fuel pump control module (EKPM3) not supported (HW-NR 7276383), F30 German language development script required (outside the scope of this DIY)
  • GS40 DCT gearbox control unit (TCU) not supported, German language development script required (outside the scope of this DIY)
  • Language variant and version mismatch errors will be displayed and can be safely ignored. When you integrate the German metric ECU description files and group files from the SP Daten, the language variants do not match and the ECU description files are newer than anticipated.
I don't know which DDE the X5 xDrive35d has. Post a screenshot from INPA identifying all installed control modules and we can go from there...in INPA, go to E70 -> Auswahl E70 -> Functional Jobs -> <F2> Identification.

Started from scratch (again...) I have already been in contact with shawnsheridan and he came up with a solution where I add an Fxx INPA version to EC-APPS and a new EDIABAS to override the existing one under C:. I guess then I have a functioning INPA, but for NCS Expert et al I need to follow your DIY?

INPA says that I have the DDE 6 (I think...) so maybe it's working afterall with the original install... I just can't find the path to updating the injectors. Will do some more investigation later on.

In order to integrate the German F-Series INPA scripts, I recommend following the DIY and then copying the INPA_Fxx_v.2 folder to C:\EC-APPS\INPA_Fxx_v.2. Do not overwrite the EDIABAS folder, use the existing EDIABAS instance.

If you post the INPA identification screenshot, I can help you determine the DME variant and proper INPA script.

At the beginning I would like to say Hello to everyone because it's my first post here
Thanks for your post about INPA I think it will be very helpfull for me but I have a question:
After many attempts (unsuccessful) with inpa on my home laptop (x64) which is used everyday for everything, I've made decision about buying extra netbook only to use with Inpa. I've bought Dell Latitude 2110 with Intel Atom 1.8 ghz 2G RAM and hdd 160gb with Windows 7 Profesional x32. Now is the question: should I instal inpa on Windows 7 which came together with netbook ?? or get rid of W7 and install Windows XP instead ?? I can't hide that after so many unsuccessful tries I am very pi..ed off on such situation because I can't connect with my car and check what's going on. My car it's E90 02/2009 330i N53 and recently I have cold start/ idle issue. I did some research on the internet and it seems to be matter of broken injector. As we all know it's not cheap and I wanna repair it on my own and in addition I don't know how long I can use my car with such injector/s before it completely breaks down and stops engine 100miles from home . Thanks in advance

I recommend using Windows 7 x86 as opposed to Windows XP.
