I just found out that my transmission fluid is leaking, has anyone here local have this same problem? If so what did you guys do to fix it? Any local shops that can fix this cheap? I have a automatic transmission if that matters

If the tranny pan is leaking, bmw normally recommends a new transmission pan and seal - around $700 at the dealership. Since parts are around $150, it might be closer to $400 at an indy shop. Not sure why bmw recommends replacing the pan instead of just reusing it. Maybe because it may be warped and this is why it started leaking in the first place.

You could do it yourself provided you know a little about cars. Try to find a DIY... so far I have not seen one on the exact procedure. GL

Seems to be common problem, the mechatronic connector at the pan gets loose. The pan need to be replaced cause the filter is part of it, unless you want to use the old filter (bad idea).

Maybe if your car is low in mileage BMW dealer will do it for free (maybe).

if you are below 60~50k, u do not need to replace the pan as it's rated "lifetime" by bmw which means 100k in their dictionary. just go to the dealer and ask your tranny seal is break loose and they will just replace the seal and transmission fluids, although transmissino fluids itself will cost you good sum of money. i think i paid about bit over$400 to flush out tranny fluids completely and refilled them with fresh one at 50k. mechanic told me there's TIS for tranny fluid leak which indicates it's rather common problem so if you are under warranty, just ask your SA to do it and they'll cover under warranty (u get fresh tranny fluids fill up for free as well).

i wouldn't try to do this at home because bmw recommend calibrating/leveling tranny fluids at certain temp. especially with the weather we have right now, i'd rather have dealer or indi-shop who knows what they do do it.

your dealer might do it under good will but very unlikely. if your mileage is low, you might be ok with new seal...

i just noticed a small spot on the garage floor. jacked the car and looks like it's coming from the mechatronics sealing sleeve. wtf this car is a pita.
who's had this fixed out of warranty? what did they do, what was the cost?
i'm under 30k and have fresh fluid, wondering if just the sleeve can be replaced...

I am having it fixed for around $300 at an indie shop on tuesday. much cheaper than the $700+ I was quoted at both Seattle area BMW dealers.

just make sure they are using right fluids. a lot of indy shops tend to go cheap on the fluids because most customers won't care/won't know. but our transmission require very specific fluids. you will see the whole debate here.

Ever since I got a winter beater..I had parked my E90 in garage and noticed few drops of oil on the floor. Fixed up an appointment with dealer (as it is under CPO) and dropped it of today afternoon. They replaced Mechatronic valve, pan, gasket but they reused old trans fluid.

So until now, having CPO was very useful..rear main seal replaced, and now this..

What else could go wrong in E90..I mean common nuisances?

I talked to a fam friend who owns an indy shop and has worked on trannys for a long time... Even he told me in this case im better off letting the dealer handle it. The damn DIY looks ridiculously simple....
