I'm sure it sounds sikk. But I'm trying hard to like it. Mercs just aren't appealing to me vsually. Performance wise it sounds good, but round a track it would fail. I'm sure you couldn't give a shi** though.

Just be careful

Compared to an M3? Even with the amount of power relative to an M3?

Thanks for the kind comments - I'm pretty chuffed with it at the moment.

I think it's going to be a great all rounder.

SiKkBaSs - is that you Lightweight? As Carlos says, it ain't gonna be a fail round a track. Agreed, it will not be M3-good round a track, it's not as well balanced as an M3 , but it's not exactly going to be mullered.

As a road car it's a different story - the performance in the C63 is just more accessible and smoother so it's easier to drive faster; time will tell whether this is what will finally satisfy me!

I dont see whats not to like

1. Mercedes
2. AMG
3. £54K+ motor
4. Potential of 540+bhp
5. Very rare
6. 4 tail pipes
7. Sounds amazing

I could go on and appreciate people have opinions but come on who would turn one down if you could afford it.

M3s are a nice car but they are common and visually not that different to my E92 M sport 320D costing half as much (to your average person)

Let the flaming begin.

Well the M3 has:

-50/50 weight distribution.
-higher rev range
-stiffer suspension

C63 is just a small car with a huge engine in it. M3 is driving bliss.

(yes stating the obvious)

Also regarding the track, it depends on the track. If round a Nascar track then the AMG has it wrapped up . Plus the Benz looks too "I'm rich and retired" to me.

All IMO and NO offence to Paul at all.

Let the flaming continue

I agree with you that the M3 is a good car to drive but driving bliss hmm.....

The 50/50 weight distribution is accurate and has been marketed well and dare I say may 'flatter' the average driver.

The vast majority of us buy a car as a daily drive and track times are an irrelevance imo. Take the 335d for example. Better than average handling but the engine is flexible enough to allow that car to be pretty fast across A and B roads. An engine that provides the 'flexibility' of torque and BHP is a joy to drive. The need to rev all the time can become tiresome and impractical and hit the mpg figures hence I can fully understand why the DCT is often the favoured choice. Great when you're on a track though where all you have to concentrate on is changing down, setting the car up for the next corner etc.

Whether the engine out performs the chassis on the C63 I have no idea as I've never driven one. I can't imagine for one minute though that it would be that bad through the bends and certainly not with a driver who knows his stuff tbh.

The noise they make is something else. I think the C63 has an air of brute power but without being crass about it like some American muscle cars.

Some goind points there palmnuts. I remember reading that the C63 AMG is every bit as good as an m3. Not far off it around the circuit either.

Your points on accessible performance are very true and correct.

I think modern AMG Mercs have the best soundtrack of any cars on the road today. While not vital, it's nice to hear a lovely engine woofling away.

The M3 is a superb car but it's not for everyone.

Other very pleasant engine noises to me are the 4.8is X5 (!), the older RS6, the B7 RS4 and almost any 911, regardless of age. My R32 made a nice noise too. Yet to hear a nice sounding four pot.

I agree too.

I'm not a huge fan of the E63, maybe due to my usual anti-Merc stance and that fact that I haven't driven one nor could afford one, but reckon it's an amazing multi-purpose car (bit like an M5 with the rough edges smoothed off). I'm sure the E63 is an amazing car with much more everyday drivability than an M3 that needs a bit more effort putting in.

Saw a white E63 yesterday morning, the black looks much better .

Would I have one even though I'm not a huge fan; damn right I would .

Oh, 335diesel, you missed off Aston from your list and I'm going to be selfish and add a 350Z to the list too. Great noise from a more affordable car (aparently they've ruined it on the 370Z; shame)

Roger - Aston indeed - the Vanquish. And yes the 350z does sound good too (tested one before I got the R32 but needed four seats in the end!)

4 secs difference between the M3 and the C63 around the track is a fail in my opinion.

And another thing, any way you cut the C63 still has a slushbox automatic gearbox.

The spec that palmball has, has an LSD. The car in the topgear vid didnt.

M3 vs C63 with lsd around hockemhiem circuit which is a failry twisty circuit the times are identical.

Please go and drive a c63 before you judge one as they are fucking mental in every way.

PB its a special car. When i drove one on extended loan i loved the gearbox really quick downchanges. defo beter the the M6s smg.
