Steering wheel stripe

So this isn't a "do you like steering wheel stripes" thread. It's "whats your opinion on THIS stripe."

So quick back story, I had an alcantara wrapped wheel, but it's too much of a pain to keep clean, and wasn't happy with the fit. So I finally ditched the alcantara in favor of genuine leather. I like the stripe but not fond of the sewn in leather piece. I have considered several options. But after finishing my wrap I had an idea. I wrapped some of the leftover thread an mocked up a stripe. I personally like individual thread look, and obviously the color matches the stitching. My wife (who doesn't like the stripe to begin with) says it looks like Walmart ribbon.

What are your thoughts? I'll likely do it regardless because if I end up not liking it I can get rid of it.

I think it looks fine. There are so many ways to achieve the strip and this is just one of them.

Hmmm imo you're gonna have to make the stitching a bit better than that, on the bottom it's askew to the right and a few gaps in between the strands. Maybe you should have your wife do the stitching that way she can't complain about it!

Can you expand on the different ways of achieving the strip.
I think the strip needs to be a little wider, but looks good.

Well, electrical tape comes in any color and you can start with a tight wrap and make a few laps while slowly loosening it. Should give the same look.

You can grab any material and pull it tight and stich it.

You can buy a $40 steering wheel cover that comes with one stitched in.

You could tape off each side of where you want the strip to be and use Dye to color it.

You could also do a Vinyl strip as well. Mines holds up pretty well
(Just remember to apply some heat - enough for the adhesive to stick)

I had the option of the sewn in leather stripe, but personally don't care for those. Just a personal preference I guess.

It will be a bit wider, I just wanted to get a visual

I feel like you must not be married, it doesn't matter if she did it or if the pope did it, she'd still complain! 😂

I ultimately went with the stripe. I figured worst case scenario I can remove it pretty easily. We'll see how it it holds up long term, but I think it should do ok since it's not in "high contact" area.
