Possible ECU failure 30BA fault code
hi all,
having an issue with my 57 plate 330i with the N53 engine. I had the rocker cover gasket replaced a few weeks ago as it was leaking oil form the seal. Car drove fine for about a day (50 miles approx). Started driving it a day later and all of a sudden the car start missfiring and the EML came on as well as the warning on the Idrive. Took it back home and left it to sit for a week or so as this isnt my daily drive so didnt have much time to sort it. Had the car recovered to my local auto electricians and its bringing up the fault code "30BA injector 1, 4 or ECU failure" Has anyone had an experiences with this? ive read something about MOSFETs becoming damaged in the ECU. The car has 6 new injectors and coils that haven't done more than 20k. I'm thinking of sending my ECU off for repair as we're pretty stumped on whats causing this. Coils and plugs are all fine. no obvious signs of breaks in any of the wiring. thanks |

Took the ecu out and tested the 6 MOSFETS and cylinder 1 came back damaged so I've replaced all 6 on the board ( used a highly rated electrical engineering shop to carry out the repair)
Fitted the ecu along with a new coil for the cylinder and 6 plugs and the 30BA code has gone but now its showing code for cylinder 1 misfire. My only thoughts are it could be the injector that's gone but the car already had 6 new injectors fitted less than 20k ago. What's the likelihood of it been a injector? Could it be something else? Thanks |

No real idea I'm afraid but wondering if the mosfet damaged the injector, or perhaps the mosfet was damaged by the injector in the first place. Only suggestion is to move injector 1 to another bank and see what happens.

Update: I had a sneaking suspicion that the new coil i fitted was damaged so i swapped the new coil with an existing one and turned out the brand new coil was damaged.
Exchanged it with a new one and the car is running fine now. |

From ECP by any chance ? I bought 3 delphi coilpacks from them a year or so ago and one failed within a week, dirty great hole in the side of the plastic neck.
Glad you got it working btw. |
