Question re: 6FL kit

Hi
I am trying to fit 6FL retrofit kit (6541 0445465). Owner bought this kit and according to the dealer this kit should fit.

Car has followings;
609 Professional Nav
620 Voice Control
633 Prep Mobile Business
6AA BMW tele services
6AB Control Tele Service
6VC Control Combox

If I match the vin and the kit on real oem, it is a valid retrofit kit. However real oem mentions that only in conjunction with
61136913626
61136913644

This car has 26 pin connector connected to combox.

Whereas BMW EBA 0443679 (retrofit guide) shows and only mentioned about 54 pin connector.
This is included in retrofit kit

What is going on wrong here?
Do we have telematics combox instead of media combox and having issues?
Or something else?
Solution?
Any pointers?

Thanks.

Hello bud, combox does 6FL so I don't think you need extra kit here, do you? If the car came with combox (whichever media or telematics) it should at minimum give you 6FL option.

Or am I missing something here?

This probably answers why retrofit guide mentions only 54 pin tcu connector.

6FL on combox goes over black port of combox and his straight to the usb, just code it afterwards and it should be ready to use.

Afsar, there is no 6FL in the car VO. In the glove box, its only aux in.
you can hook the phone to CIC via BT or use the hard drive but nothing on 6FL.

Again, it is very confusing! In real oem, this 6FL kit shows as retrofit and is applicable on the car. But the box on the car has 26 pin connector whereas retrofit kit has 54.
Confused since past 2 hours...

There is certainly more to it if the car came with combox but not 6fl, retrofitted combox???

Did you check centre console area for any hidden usb port or was the aux connector ever changed in past? Does current aux work?

All OEM stuff afsar. I have taken out the central console. No hidden usb port and aux in is OEM one.
So seems like it has never been opened.

Does anybody know if telematics and media combox have same sockets?
I am thinking that this on is telematics combox whereas media combox use 54pin socket.

You should be happy that you don't need extra control unit. I see you are finding it hard to believe... :O

So Are you saying that solution is;
1- Buy a USB socket + aux in socket.
2- Run a black wire from the combox ----> USB socket.
3- Code the car for 6FL.
4- Enjoy!

???

There could be a situation that car didn't come with 6fl from factory hence only aux but no 6fl but I have never seen such odd combination of vehicle order.

I think that the 54-pin/26-pin issue is irrelevant.

Take a look at that Combox. Do you see any LVDS sockets (black and blue) anywhere? If so those are the USB ports -black is main USB, blue is secondary USB. You will need a cable, the USB socket and coding to get 6FL.

If no LVDS sockets then this is somehow a new Combox without external USB sockets. Perhaps the USB connections are to be made at the 26-pin connector -highly improbable.

Hi,

If you have combox, the 6FL is accomplished by the following..

AUX to centre console: Pins 22(shield) , 23(Left) , 24(Right), 10 (ground)
HSD black connector - USB to the centre console.
HSD blue connector - USB to 6NF (not really needed)

Combox is always 26 pin (telematics or media)
54 pin is for TCU/ULF..

Those wirings are all you need for full 6FL..

Pretty much yes, you will need wiring details for the aux connector if current aux is directly connected to the cic. I don't remember if aux goes to the cic (it does to ccc) or goes to tcu/combox.

Oh and one more thing..
6FL applies to cars with no combox, like with MULF2. which does use the 54 pin connector.. maybe that is why you got that connector..

I checked your part number:
Retrofit kit USB/audio interface 1 03/2007 09/2010 65410445465 See EBA 0443679, EBA 2210827
Only together with ULF
module, High
, refer to
diagram, USB/audio interface
A supplementary cable adapter is
needed to connect an iPod,
see diagram 651796.
For vehicles with Professional radio

Its for a ULF, which has a 54 pin connector

AUX goes to combox, if you code 6FL to CIC, it expects the AUX to come over MOST.

Yes, Technic LVDS are there

So in nutshell, we have the wrong kit here.
Now all I need is a new black cable and USB + aux in socket.

Any idea where to get these?
Any help with part numbers?

Interesting. Does that mean I do not need to code the car for 6FL?

Thanks to all of you guys on prompt response.

Few things to clear.
1- I would really like to get an OEM cable to get it fitted. Any pointer with the correct part number?
2- I would love to do a bit of DIY but never made the fakra / LDV connector socket, so I will be useless.
3- I do not require coding 6FL. As that is for older MULF.

???

You do need to code the car, else it wont activate USB,

Here is the part numbers:
61119137935 4-channel HSD USB Cable with Black Connector, from Combox to USB/AUX
61119202749 4-channel HSD USB Cable with Blue Connector, from Combox to Baseplate for 6NR features - only if needed..
61319189175 USB/AUX Connector (it must be this switchable one to provide audio in over aux and audio from Baseplate over the same wires!!
61136954554 Empty 6-Pin Connector to wire audio lines from Baseplate and to Combox

-- BIg thanks to vortex for his comprehensive DIY..

BTW, that HSD cable shows up as combox to USB hub on the BMW dealer systems.. not to worry, it is the right cable, (white colored)
Also, you might have to file a notch on the cable to fit it into the combos, (you will know what I mean once you get the cable)
