Wood cribbing, if done correctly, is much more stable than jack stands for supporting a vehicle. Wood cribbing is used all of the time for supporting heavy loads (much heavier than a car). We use wood cribbing to support turbine generator components weighing in the hundreds of tons; although, for those type of loads we use heavy oak cribbing. Properly stacked pine 2x4s will easily and safely support a car.
