they were ok... the RSX is relatively slow and light (2700 lb).. so they weren't useless, but they certainly left a lot to be desired...

they'd be fine for the first couple track days someone does, but they'd most likely be done after that

edit:
I guess I'm not sure how they'd fair with a heavier car like a 3300lb 328i...

Prolly not real well, I think. The XP10 pads have done several weekends of track duty as well as daily driving and they haven't reached their halfway point yet. Car is over 3300 pounds unladen, or close to it.

Does the car still need a helmet?

One thing I can note for n54/n55 owners doing their first HPDE with auto... (I am not going to go over the list of new DOT4 brake fluid, etc. stuff that should be on your HPDE list and required if you are doing a BMWCCA HPDE). It may behoove you to be very, very comfortable shifting gears "manually", either with the paddles or with the lever/knob... Why? Because most likely your car will overheat, and if you can manage heat ~somewhat~ by short shifting (and early, like, dude, starting even in the first session), you'll probably have a better day. Of the 4 students I have had driving the 335i with autos, every one went into limp mode sometime during the day. Mostly likely the third session right after lunch. MT drivers may have to go into 5th gear in the straights too. I know, I have a 6MT 335i and it limps if I don't. (I have since gone to another platform.)
