Courtesy car - cost?
hey all
my 320 is due for its first service come next month... and my wife's just made a booking. she's also requested a courtesy car - to which she was told was a $60 per day cost. I was under the impression that the courtesy car was free? or was just wishful thinking on my part? ps - it's BMW Canterbury that i purchased the car from and am servicing it at. thanks. |

Some stealerships try pull this crap. Wouldn't expect it from the stealership where you purchesed from though, that is piss poor. Many other car manufacturers, ie Lexus don't do this.
$300 a week and they are paying for the damn car. Then again, if they didn't charge you for it, they sure make up for it with their exorbatant prices. Tell them to jam it up their a## and book the car elsewhere. It's probably only an oil service which they'll charge you $400 for when you can get it for 180-190 elsewhere. I personally take mine to an independant and provided you have the paperwork, the warranty stays intact ![]() |

It should be free if it's the dealer you bought your car from, well that's the treatment my friends & i have received over the past 5+ years from several dealers in both Melbourne & Sydney.

thanks for the messages guys...
see the problem is the very friendly and professional salesman that i dealt with has left Canterbury - he was the one i think i remembered saying that i would get a free courtesy car when i purchased the car. now i'm in a dilemma - the rational side of me wants to bring it to an independent shop to have it serviced for a whole lot less money, but on the other hand my wife and i know that we will one day sell the car and a full service history from BMW themselves would sell a lot better. unless i took my car somewhere else? maybe i might call them myself and thrash things out. |

In the letter we received from the dealer after the purchase was completed they were boasting about their state-of-the art maintenance and repair centre, but made it also very clear that a courtesy car would cost I think $60 a day.
![]() Quite embarrasing, really, considering even Hunter Holden (when we still were driving a Vectra) had a courtesy bus service which would get us across town to work no worries while the car was serviced (I won't elaborate on the quality of the service, though).

Yep BMW Sydney/Chatswood charges $15 to reimburse the cost of fuel, toll etc. Still better than paying $60 for a crappy 320i.

anyway, i remember receiving letters from dealers (same as what the others have mentioned earlier) some months after i bought cars that from xxxx onwards, they will be charging $xx for courtesy cars. i also remember receiving another letter saying washes will be charged a minimal amount (apparently due to water restriction et al). i wasn't concerned as i had written correspondence between the dealer principals and myself stating i will get a free courtesy car (or drop off at the airport or somewhere) and washing when i bring my cars in for service (warranty or otherwise). so far, whenever i bring a car in, i never even had to ask -- the service advisor would offer me a car as soon as i email or call them for a booking. now if that fails, go to an indy, as others have said. |

I recently had my car serviced at BMW Rushcutters Bay and I always book a courtesy car in advance. I have never now or in past paid any more than $10 + optional excess deduction of $30 (reduces excess from $3000 down to $400 in case of a accident).
They pickup any tolls or fuel usage. To top it off...........they gave me a brand new Montego Blue LCI E90 320i. |
