Heat Question for those in Cold (~0 degree) weather

Folks,

Im concerned that either my electric/ceramic heater or primary heater is not working.

Question: For those of you around 0 degrees; how how is the air coming out of your vents with heat on / max?

Mine is lukewarm to warm but not hot and without heated seats I would be quite cold. My commute to work is fairly short (~20 mins) but it takes about all that time to get the cabin warm.

Tip: select dash vent only, move dial to far right, turn off A/C. I get good heat within 2 mins.

What do you mean by dash vent? The 1st or 2nd button? Dash windshield or dash face?

I can usually hear my ceramic heater working. It makes a noise and blows air into the cabin.

Dash face I guess. You have defrost, dash, and footwell.

It's relative. Everyone is different. It's not hot but definitely warm.

OK thanks,

Placing my hand immediately adjacent to the vent feels like the equivalent of lukewarm bathwater. There is warmth but it doesn't seem like enough. I survive fine with the heated seats but want to address any MX issues before my upcoming service appointment.

Probably a silly question, but do you have the auto button pushed? I find that this Gatling reduces the speed to heat or cool even when on max fan & temp settings.

I've tried different flavors and find that the heating is seemingly weak. Using face or floor vents temps arent that hot and flow isnt that great either (though it makes a hell of a lot of noise)

So it was -7.6 F today when I started my car and within 6 minutes of driving my cabin was warm.

By the way how much of your commute is on the highway?

Ohio's been cold as heck 6 degrees or so. After 5 minutes or so my car is warm. Sounds like something is wrong with your car. I'd take it in and tell them to let it sit before they do their tests.

Sounds like yours is acting up.

Mines burning hot after 10minutes of driving. However I keep my settings at midway for the dash dial, and blowing to the front (face) for airflow since I prefer light heat.

Have you checked your cabin air filter? Maybe it's clogged... Just an idea.

Something must be wrong with your ceramic heater. I can easily tell when mine is on, which is automatic at lower temps - that thing makes so much heat, it can become very hot very quickly, even on 0F days. I leave my climate control in auto all the time except when I need defrost. You should take it in to get checked.

I've activated mine with the BT Scan Tool and tested the leads going to the aux heater with a volt meter to see if voltage is applied. If it's not you could have a bad module if it is you could just have a burn aux heater.

Also, if the car's battery is weak the ECU can prevent the heater from coming on. I've read somewhere the 335d and x5d kicks it on when "excess alternator power" is available.

On my 2010 Jetta TDI, you can hear the relay click on when the rpm's are above 1900. once the RPM drop's below 1900 the relay clicks off.

Thanks, that's a great post. How do you activate it with the BT scan tool?
