Wastegate Rattle or Exhaust Rattle?
I am getting a rattle when I rev the car I think I have the wastegate rattle but I want to make sure it is not the exhaust before i bring it in i'm at 80k so i'm close to the warranty ending.
I do have the JB4 and have the exhaust flap open so i dont think it would be that rattling right? I dunno an input on how I can make sure it is the wastegate or if it's the exhaust would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance |

Post a video of the rattle.
The waste gate rattle is pretty distinct. When you rev up to about 2500 to 3000 RPM and let off the throttle, you will hear the rattling as the rpm fall.

you absolutely must take it out before you bring it in. spending 30 minutes to take it out, as opposed to them finding it and charging you 6.5K for new turbos, is an easy decision. they "might" not find it or care, but highly unlikely

That my friend is WG rattle.
If you have JB4, go to menu 10 (100mph on the speedo) and then move your RPM needle on the right down to 800rpms. This will change the default position of the wastegate and should eliminate the rattle. This will keep the WG's open, which means you'll have a little throatier of an exhaust note, and a slightly less responsive/laggier throttle. But when boost does come on it hits HARD. |

Besides the horrible noise which makes the car sounds like one of those rusty 20+ year old Camrys I see driving around... is there any other major issues with it?
My car has being rattling like this for about a month now, ever since I got my mods put on (I do believe it used to rattle faintly back when it was stock too, but the stock OEM DP does a good job of muting most of the noise). Tried messing around with menu 10 & 12 but they don't seem to make any difference to the rattle once the car is warmed up, so now I have just left it at the default 10-4 & 12-2.5 position. So far no other symptoms has shown up besides the noise, I did get a error regarding to low charge pressure but have since discovered that my chargepipe was loose, retightened the thing & so far no error codes. Wondering if I can just keep on driving it with the rattle? Seeing how I do about 500-600km per week just for work. I'm in Australia, so no extended warranty or anything.

Sounds a lot like WG rattle...however it's really easy to check exhaust flap rattle...just have someone in the car controlling the gas and hold up the exhaust flap from the bottom (wear gloves just in case)

Just brought it in to the dealer the new service advisor tried to sell me any and every maintenance.
I wanted to do the vacuum hoses but he said they would be 800. I was like wtf if it was the standard 300 Id do it. I'm going to call the service advisor I usually work with and see what the actual price would be. He kept saying 3 hours of labor and parts I don't see vacuum lines costing 500 lol |

Probably your wastegates if the JB4 has the exhaust flap open. Check all vacuum lines for leaks from brake booster to wastegate actuators. If all lines are leak free then remove DP's and plug a mityvac into each wastegate line and pump to 200Mbar or 5.9"Hg. Then get under car and look to see that wastegate is sufficiently closed under this precise vacuum. If it's too tight or still open, adjust the actuator Rod accordingly. Problem solved!

Omg more issues pick up the car from the dealer tonight... But when I called him this morning to see when the car would be ready he said it was ready but my coolant was low so they topped it off and I should consider a coolant flush. I told him that's weird since you guys did the water pump a few months ago...
I pick up my car and am driving home the dealer I use is about an hour away. I use them for their customer service. While driving him the low coolant light comes on luckily I was by an oasis rest stop. I pull in and smoke is come from the hood of my car. I pop the hood and coolant is everywhere. Now I'm waiting for triple a to come but the dealer is closed. I can't tell where the leak is coming from but I'm assuming the turbo lines or something... Just so frustrating |
