Under Seat Sub Woofer Manufacture
Does anyone know who the stock manufacture is of the under seat sub woofer?
I just saw a video from SEMA 2009, they were interviewing the president of Earthquake SWS. He stated they were supplying the SWS8xi to BMW in S Africa. Does that mean we already have the SWS if our car was made in S Africa? |

Other posts say this is correct
Other posts say this is correct that they are the subcontractor
But its not an SWS-8 , its something made to OEM specs and a cheaper speaker. |

My OEM Hi-Fi 8" subs are not with me right this moment so I can't look and verify, but I thought they were made by Harman(?) in some European country (Belguim?)

Mystery Woofer
Here is what i can tell you:
My underseats blew in my 2007 328i and I took one out. It was made in Hungary and has a total weight of 1200 grams. If you give me an email address I'll send you pictures of it in case you are interested in any details. Rob |

What's the power that the standard subs can handle as I'm running mine from an aftermarket amp.

Unclear to me. I was running a stock HiFi system with moderate volume when I began smelling cooking electronics- that distinctive "caramel" smell. Things got worse over the next days and when we pulled it out the coil was stuck in position. It had 60K miles on it, figure 80K listening minutes. There doesn't seem to be many people who have my problem, so I may be an outlier. Lots of people, especially with the "Base" system are unhappy with the stock sound of the 4" mids. I was OK with the HiFi , although I have had good systems in the past and knew what i was missing. I'm looking forward to getting Jehnrets from Don and rebuilding up.

I am from South Africa and I can tell you that we dont install (or currently have) SWS woofers under the seats. They are the stock 6.5" items in the plastic holders
