Axle back/Cat back, yes.

Anything further towards the engine, no.

I would say yes but I have no proof on the X-pipe section. Is the Xpipe going to be down stream of the center cats on the car or are you deleting those cats?

I have a E92 335xi. Let me tell you the difference.

The stock exhausts are pretty much the same between the i and xi. I think it is designed to work on both.

HOWEVER, the xi has a transfer case located at the mid section/secondary cats (where the bend is). The stock gives enough room to work on both. But some after market exhausts do not give enough room and may NOT work at this section, such as Milltek.

After the secondary cats, things are pretty much the same. Thus, if the x-pipe and mufflers work for the i, then it should work on the xi. That's why axle-backs or muffler-only systems work.

If you have an xi, I would highly recommend getting axle-back or muffler only systems. Cat-backs (mid-section+x-pipe+mufflers) are very risky (unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure). I am getting the Bastuck system, which is an axle-back. Before this, I bought the Milltek and it didn't work.

Top: i
Bottom: xi

+1, nice pics and good advice.

I got an axle back myself, safer and simpler.

For more gains get an ECU change.

for the e90 the exhausts are the same for the i or xi. The change between the i and xi on the sedans is in the downpipes. So, you should be safe with the catback. I know this was true for my Harman / VISHNU exhaust, but you may want to ask the vendor for specifics.
