what powers our tubos?
i appologize for the rookie question... i was just curious about how our turbo's work?? does the air rushing in spin the tubines or are they connected to something powering them??is the air sucked in pushed into the pistons to make more space in them to increase fuel supply thereby enhancing the power stroke or the compression stroke?

Turbos use the hot exhaust gases.Hot exhaust, plus incoming air spins the turbo blades and compresses the gasses back into the intake. Before they enter the throttle body they pass through the intercooler to cool the charge.Basically thats it.

Simply, think of it as two fan blades connected with a shaft. One fan is on the exhaust side, the other on the intake side. When exhaust gas causes the exhaust side to spin, the intake side will also spin causing pressure on the intake side.
For intercooler, look up PV=nRT in your high school chem book. |

Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words ...
Just think that your engine produces exhaust gases and instead of just throwing these gases out of your tailpipe, they are instead connected to the hotside of your turbo and spin your turbine wheel before exiting out of your downpipe and the rest of your exhaust. Once that hot gas spins or "spools" up your turbo, the compressor side of your turbo sucks in air from your intake and compresses it. That compressed air then goes through your intercooler (front mount intercooler on this car), and then through your throttlebody and into the engine where you see it as "boost." Its a pretty simple concept once you realize what's going on. Also, other basics that go hand and hand with turbos and intercoolers are wastegates and diverter valves/blow off valves. Basically, wastegates and BOV's do a similar operation, but one works on the exhaust side (wastegate) and the other works on the intake side (bov). When you floor your car, your wastegates shut (well, on the 335 this actually works a little differently, but for getting a basic understanding we can use this as an example) and cause all of the exhaust gases to pass through the turbo before going into your exhaust. Once the desired boost pressure is met, the wastegates will open and have the exhaust gases bypass the turbine so that they won't continue to build boost where they are basically operating as valves that open and close to control boost. On the intake side you then have diverter valves or BOV's that will also act like valves that will either vent boost pressure either back into the intake tract or to the atmosphere based on throttle position. When the throttle body closes, that boost needs to go somewhere so they will vent it. Those are your turbo basics in a nut shell.

How does that church saying go? Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world. Sounds an awful lot like you're throwing stones there brother and I'd bet good money you are not without sin. Ease up on the people trying to learn and try to set an example - not be an ass.
