I am trading my 335i for a 135i in a year or so and I will order it with this kit. I think it will make the car mean without overdoing it. Then I won't have anything to hide. It won't be the fastest 1er but it will be reliable and backed by BMW. I'm glad they are doing something as opposed to nothing.

How else does having an MDS81 affect the car? Any idea?

Good Q. There are issues here -- including FASTA monitoring -- that I'm hoping knowledgeable folks like Scalbert & Shiv might help with.

So for guys with MSD80...there is a good side of this increased price: the dealer will be forced to replace your MSD80 with MSD81, leaving you the owner of a spare MSD80 ECU (I don't think you can buy an ECU and go to dealer and replace it if your current one is not faulty). You can flash this spare ECU with a more powerful flash tune, and switch the ECU's at will or between dealer visits (of course, you will pay big money but you will have the warranty...). So you will have the most invisible tune

But the old MSD80 wouldn't have the proper code for the cooling stuff.

What code ? The cooling stuff is just a bigger fan and an expanded water circuit, all mechanical. I think the water pump works based on the water temperature, so I don't think any code is needed for the new parts. Maybe the water pump speed is increased a bit as per Dinan, but with the old ECU it would work as before, with the added benefit of lower water temperatures.

I wonder if BMW USA will give the MSD80 EUCs to the customer. Something tells me they'll keep it as a core charge or something.

damn ALMOST 3K for 20hp....GL!
It's called relative cost of living... that's what he's trying to say. So the kit should hopefully come in here at a lower price. Otherwise, if your argument was valid and all you gotta do is take a Euro price and multiply it by the current exchange rate, then why doesn't BMW sell their cars here for a much higher amount?

In the German forums one member had it installed today and has already posted his first impressions. Here is also a photo under the hood of what it looks like (partly). In summary he felt the car was definitely faster, in particular more torque available in low revs (he has an AT and so got the whole 450 Nm). More fun to drive, but didn't feel as if it were another car (i.e. substantially more power), the output was still very linear. Costs were 1800 EUR (install included, no change of DME necessary).

I`d rather get a flash + the Tuner`s warranty than wasting my money on power that would only be felt by a good deal of imagination and willpower

Im sure that 26hp/50 lb-ft is tangible change. Im pretty sure that no tuner will warranty anything on your car aside from their product...other than Dinan.

Its not about the power in my opinion. Its the updated cooling.

The big BMW Tuners like Hamann,Hartge etc. work together with special insurance companies and offer a Tuning + insurance on engine, tranny etc package

yes,as a matter of fact the greatest gain of this mod is the updated cooling

But it is sold as a tune for more power and most of the people don`t really know or care about the cooling

We cant really benefit from that here in the US because the majority of their performance mods arent common/offered here.

Definitely a rip off for what you get. But I agree with earlier posts, it's aimed at people who don't got to forums, have unpainted side markers, and couldn't tell the difference between a 335 or a M3. I vote PROcede, but then again don't want the worry of voiding warranty or having to even think / deal with it.
