The install involves electrical changes. They may have forgotten to tighten the ground points, or other electrical issue. Ask them to re-inspect all the electrical work done.

New sparkplugs are provided (regular ones) and they need to be changed every 60.000kms. The supplemental radiator is very lightweight and 100% aluminium.

Some pics below.
Does the New stage 2 BMW Power Kit still include sparkplugs?? For N54?

I wouldn't really call it turbo lag for fear of starting that debate here on this thread. It was very minor but still it was noticeable. And I've driven cars with real turbo lag, so let's not go there.
Somewhat OT... Just discovered this thread... Thanks for pointing out this fact! (above) In all the back-and-forth about Steptronic vs. manual, "loosing boost during shits", my quoting, over and over again, the SAE technical paper by BMW engineers showing how the prevent the boost from dropping during quick shifts, (retards ignition timing and keeps throttle open) etc... I never looked at the "elusive obvious"

The Auto is geared significantly lower than the manual in first through fourth gears!

I thought it was just a lower final drive ratio for the auto combined with taller gearing in all forward gears. But that's not the case. Here's how it breaks down:

1st Steptronic 15.4% shorter
2nd Steptronic 9.5% shorter
3rd Steptronic 8.0% shorter
4th Steptronic 7.6% shorter
5th manual 2.3% shorter
6th manual 12.2% shorter

So the auto has at least a 7.6% advantage in any gear lower than 5th, and a whopping 15% advantage in 1st gear (plus the torque multiplication until the torque converter locks up). The only place where the manual would have a clear advantage is in 6th gear acceleration without downshifting.

No wonder people on here are saying that the autos launch harder... No wonder the E9x 335i auto is only 0.2 seconds slower 0-60 mph, where in the E46's the difference was 0.5-0.6 seconds, and 0.6 seconds for the E9x 328's.

Or to put it another way: The Steptronic is built for the street, the manual is built for the Autobahn.

OK, back to the PPK...

Thanks Notempo. Does anyone know why the ppk is lower upgrade for MT compared to AT. That implies a concern BMW have around MT but not for AT. But it's the AT guys that have the transmission concerns at larger power with unofficial upgrades?

Cheers

The same manual trans is used in the 335is and the E9x M3. So it can take the power. Clutch may be an issue though. I think since BMW covers clutch wear (covered maintenance) they are covering their arse by limiting the torque on the MT PPK's.

I wonder if there is a way to trick the PPK software into thinking the car is an auto? I'd say it's unlikely since it is probably just a different version of the software based on VIN.

I want to get the PPK V2 with cooling for my car but when I went to the dealer they said they don't do the cooling upgrade for the M Sport?

My car is a Jan 08 Build 335i N54 with AT and M sport package, seems kind of weird why the cooling kit wouldn't be available for it?

Any one have insight or knowledge?

Hi, does anyone know if installing the additional cooling parts i.e aux radiator and fan requires the ECU tune as well?

From what I read in the thread it does require the ECU install as well?

Thanks

No.

The auxiliary cooling is purely mechanical; no need to code the ECU.

Only coding needed would be if you want the horsepower gains the PPK kit advertises, then you need to use software that comes with the kit.

If you only want the cooling portion though, you don't need to buy the PPK; the secondary radiator is available as a kit by itself:

Thanks for the link

I assume the bigger fan would need coding though?

The bigger fan does need coding, and there is a another power control module installed since the FAN pulls an additional 20amps (80a v 60a) if I remember correctly.

They should be able to install it on the m-sport, as long as you have the oil cooler on the RH side of the car.

You're Correct.

Yes, I forgot the PPK has the fan.

I've installed two of the secondary kits (they don't have the fan); no coding is needed with them.

Thanks for the help and info. Guess I will just go with the secondary radiator.

Hopefully fits RHD same as LHD. That along with fog lamp delete and is scoops should improve temps!

Anyone do a MDH flass with PPK? I remember seeing something about the PPK programming being required for new fan. Am I over thinking things?
