First clean this part. I couldn't find the exact part but looks very close. It's behind the wheel hub.

No one cleans these and after a couple years u get metallic cake build up on them.

Look it up ($0.02 cent Fix)
Is the BT scan tool required? Does the car need to be reprogrammed? As long as the steering wheel is put back on correctly, I would not need an alignment, correct?

You wont need ailigment. When I put everything back together I still had lights on. Then I recalabrated with BT Tool and problem went away. Its been two months and still OK.

I'm having the same problem with mine it just started yesterday. I had my car sitting for 2 months while I was out of the country and never had this problem before. I am thinking (and hoping) that the sensors are just dirty and need to be cleaned did you have any luck with cleaning yours?

I cleaned the connector, crumbs on the optical disk, electronics and optical plastic parts of the Steering Angle Sensor 2 years ago, it works like a champ, there is a good DIY in the forum, I followed that DIY.

My alignment was off to a point where the sensor kept throwing the fault code. I got my alignment done and it fixed it instantly (this was about 8 months ago) and it has never come back.

Mine throws the code and lights up the dash off and on. It has been doing this for the last year. It always starts turning right in or out of my driveway very slowly. I am going to try and clean it this weekend.

If its of any help, ill add that I do remember getting the light pop up more frequently around hot damp days.

however, i have not had this issue pop up in over a year so i have neglected solving the issue.

Good luck everyone!

I just got this error. I got an alignment done last Friday and yesterday I noticed that my steering wheel was off about 10 degrees. Car drives straight when I let my hands off, but the steering wheel is cock-eyed. I'm taking it back to the alignment shop and hopefully they can fix, but good to know there's a DIY. I'll have to look that up later

I have the same fault 5E46 Error code.
Lenkwinkelsensor Signal, Offset Fehler=Steering angle sensor signal, offset error.

How do you re-align the sensor?
Do you adjust it mechanically or a software offset?
