Tried to order key fob

Hi I was wondering if i could get some help.
I went to the dealership and ordered a key fob for my non-comfort access 2006 325xi. I was quoted at $190 which I paid for. All I had to do was provide proof that I owned the vehicle and its VIN.

When key arrived, and inserted into the slot, it gave an error. My original key fob continues to work. The dealer tried and thought it was a faulty programming of the fob and ordered another one. Same result. They read my key fob and it matches the VIN of the car. The car has never been in an accident or a salvage.

Now they want me to bring the car in for diagnostic?? I said my current key fob still functions fine in the car. Any thoughts?

you need to insert new key fob after you insert old key fob, otherwise it wouldn't activate

The new key should start the car without an error. You will have to reprogram things like your radio stations, seat positions, and whether the DLS and automatic door locking at 5 mph works or does not work.

I'd say if two keys failed, then yes, something might be wrong with the programming of the car. Hold onto your wallet, because my dealer wants $170 to do programming and says it could take up to 12 hours. I take mine to an independent mechanic when I need it, which so far, was only needed to reflash the ECU to recognize the three stage intake that I got installed.

Are you the original owner of the car? If not, it's possible the CAS has been replaced, or modified.

Do you, or someone you know, have programming tools? If so, they could check the CAS module, and see if it's original.
