In terms of ET I'd go for whatever the vendor recommends. He was saying the majority of the wheels he sells were in the low 30's but says i can have them set o whatever i want and hel make sure they will fit. So ill just say i want ET beweent 35-40 as per nicks advice. or between 35-45.
If your sticking with 9x19 front and 9.5x19 rear,I'd be specific in terms of the offset, as it will avoid misunderstandings should things go pear shaped!

As per Nick's previous advice, I'd go ET38 front & ET35 rear.

Based on my own experience, a 275/30/19 tyre would go well on the rear as per my pics above, fronts, yes a 9J wheel will fit, could be either 235/35/19 or 245/35/19's.

I totally agree with what Hotcoupe says. If you do go for 10" rim, play safe with a ET40 offset. Fit 5mm spacers to bring it down to ET35. If the wheels rub take off the spacers. (will definitely rub with 275 tyres)

Again I agree with Hotcoupe. Stick with 9.5" width at the back with an offset between ET35 and ET40.

Dont go as high as ET45. Even with a 275 tyre, these will look lost in your arches. This offset is better suited to the earlier E46 models.

Just got a reply from the vendor who said he has sold a lot of 10j rears and that with the offset they will make and even lowering i will def not have any rubbing problems. He is recommending 8.5 up front and 10j rear. So i may just go with that. I really want a 275 rim on the rear 10j though. Hopefully even if arch work is needed it will still work.

Hello did you require any arch work after you fitted 10j wheels on the back?

Thanks

Another revival...This thread is great.

I was wondering how different offsets effect the looks of the wheel itself. Does it makes a difference, or is it just the location of the wheel center compared to the wheel hub?

rgj710 - what's the offset of your wheels?

335i convertible
1 year on the following spec so far.
It turned out to be a perfect fit looks and performance wise.

Standard Msport suspension
Rims:
Front: 20x9 Deep concave
Rear: 20x10.5 Massive concave

Tyres:
Front: Toyo Proxes T1 Sport 245/30 ZR20 90Y XL
(should have been 245/35 but I took an additional risk there. No stability problems IMO)
Rear: Toyo Proxes T1 Sport 265/30 ZR20 94Y

Rubage for a while on speed humps but not recently. Need to check tyres to see the latest.

Gentlemen, just bought a 2011 335i xdrive sedan with only 30K miles on it. I want to change all 4 tires. Door jamb says 225/45 R17 for front and rear. Any chance I can put on 245/45 R17? Will it hit the wheel wells on rough NYC roads or affect over/under steer? Any input is appreciated.

Thx.

Nevin.

A 245 in the front is always tight but it does work...and will be tyre dependant if it rubs or not....or even if u are willing to put up will a very small amount of rubbing on full lock at.low manouver speeds, then fire away with 245 all round. But if u want to be on the safe side go 235 45 17 all round. But as i said u might not get any rubbing at all.... Alot of the 19" brigade including me have use a 245 35 19 up front with some rubbing and some not.... mine did but I just lived with it as it is very minimal.... plus the 245 35 19 is 2mm larger in diameter than the 245 45 17.... so that couple of mm will work in ur favour. If it was me I would defo go 245 all round....and u will have tremendous amounts of grip... and the 335i power will love it..... like mine did.

Or u could go 255 40 17 all round which alot of people do....it is not recommend for a 8j wheel tho, but more for a 8.5j wheel.... It will handle slightly sloppy on the 8j.....u might not even notice the handling difference unless u drive like ur driving on a track lol. Mega grip tho and will look aggressive with the wide tyres. So that's ur options. 😁

Thanks snedanator. My rims are stock 17 x 8; so 8j. I like the idea of the 255s. When you say sloppy, will it affect the pickup and handling or just matter more at high speeds. Any chance of the 255's getting rubbed against the wheel wells? Also, as they are 255 40, its more low profile than 235 45, correct? That will be a more stiffer ride, no? I am a novice to all this, so just speaking out my thoughts. Thx again.

Nevin.

The 255 on a 8j wheel means the side wall and tyre tread will stick out 5mm more at each side of the alloy...meaning the side wall isn't as straight up from the wheel...it just sticks out more than what an ideal 245 would look like..... slightly sloped if u like. Pick up as in acceleration will be much better since u have a 335i with great power so wheel spin will be greatly reduced. And over all grip from the front end will be like glue to the road. Overall handling will be great for fast road driving. It's not a big deal really. It's only when u would try to push the car to the limit that u might notice the handling will not be 100% planted....maybe 85-90%..... but this is at the real limit of the cars handling.....ie if u race on a track etc..... it's not that big of a deal really...but it's best to mention it.... It will be absolutely fine...and it wouldn't rub the liner as it's the same height as ur 225 45 17.....and the with the width it won't rub on turns either. And as the sidewall is the same height as ur 225 45 17 it will b the same comfort....but it will feel more stuck to the road. And yes if u went for a 235 45 17 all round it will b very slightly more comfortable cause of the slightly taller sidewall compared to the 225 45 17....but it's only very slight...and a tiny bit noticeable . The 255 40 17 sidewall height is only 3mm less than what the 235 45 17 would b... so a little bit more protection from potholes and as I said... only a tiny bit more comfort. Or u could buy 9.5 j rims all round and put 275 40 17 on them. Lol... Yes this does fit! So the 255s are fine room wise.

Not to dig up an old thread.......

But I recently picked up an 07' 335i with the factory 18" BMW wheels (see picture). The tires are shot and need to be replaced....and I'm wondering if I should go with the same size that the previous owners had on the car, or if I should go with something different.

Currently, it's got 255/35/18's on the front, and 275/35/18's in the back.

I don't mind having them a little wider than stock, but I don't want anything to rub.

Should I put a different size tire on the tire, or just replace with the same size that's on there?

Thanks!
