M3 steering wheel Swap
Hey Guys,
Anyone done the m3 steering wheel upgrade on an LCI 335i coupe? Trying to figure out what I need to do this, and the information isnt well documented. if anyone has done this upgrade, can you chime in with what you needed? Ideally I want the leather M3 steering wheel from the E9x generation, and I want the M3 DCT paddle shifters to work with it. I currently have the Msport paddles Black and Aluminum, not the SSG ones. and the Msport steering wheel. SOLUTION: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...9#post23063829 Thanks in advance! If is so easy please enlighten me, I've tried searching and it appears there are issues with e9x LCI paddles being different, I did get one member to actually reply and told me there is custom wiring to be done, so no, this isn't just another steering wheel thread. please be informed, as there's only 1 thread I could find where they had an LCI vehicle and wanted to use m3 dct paddles

Why don’t you just get the M-sport wheel? AFAIK it is very similar to the M3 wheel but has black stitching instead of red/blue and should be a straight swap for the stock wheel.

The job itself isn’t easy
Searching or googling and finding ghe information you need is, I just used the search button and after 10 mins found multiple posts about this You really think that in 2018 an m3 wheel swap hasn’t been attempted or covered? |

on LCI vehicles the process is NOT plug n play, and requires custom wiring, I'm trying to figure out what that is |

Try the M4 F30 style E89 shift paddle steering wheel instead:

Bryan and little ed are either expecting you to tell them how to do this, or they are trolls. I mean how would two other people end up on your thread unless they too were searching for the same info?

OK sorry, didn’t see you already had the M sport wheel. Is the M3 wheel any different other than the stitching? Does it use the same airbag? Just curious, I’m quite happy with the M sport wheel (wish it was heated though, gave that up in the swap)

Maybe I ended up here while looking up (and finding) how to wire the audio controls from the steering wheel to an after market headunit
Then I realized this forum is going to sh*t because people are too lazy or stupid to know how to use the search button and expect everything to be handed to them when they can do the research themselves. Somtimes finding the info for any topic takes hours of searching through threads and links, its called research... something people should be able to do |

Yeah yeah Bry Bry, right. And what were you looking for in the does it tweak you thread when you went off on a guy, saying to use the search? If anything the forum is going to xxit from condescending trolls like yourself insulting people that actually are looking for information.

Its not trolling, when its common sense The reason this forum used to be so well structured with even a thread with links to all diy’s available is because when something was done/explained that became the thread where people would go to for info, instead of tons of mini threads. And all threads with useless info or already asked questions would be deleted bc the OP would get roasted for not searching Point being this is a forum where practically every inch and everything done to the e9x is at your disposal through the search tab Its a forum, yes to ask quetions and learn but if the material is already there you gotta find it, this isn’t yahoo answers where people come here to answer your questions specifically when it already been done. As for me wanting to “troll” until you found a solution to the M3 steering wheel and let me know too, that bs, I’m not a finicky little twat doing a whole project bc i don’t like the stitching. Its been done and there diy’s out there that I’ve already found. Why would I rely on someone that can use the search tab to give me answers |

Ozzie the *** and OP should help each other out with this one, since you both like to talk about things that been covered for as many years as these cars have been out.
Seriously these cars didnt come out last month or last year for that matter, we’ll be buying g20’s and dealing with stuff on that generation while you still bring shit up on the e90. Op you arent the first guy with an lci who wanted that setup... so for the next time do yourself the favor and search. Dont just search but read carefully so you can comprehend the matter at hand. |

There you go, little_ed. I guess it is time for you and Bry Bry to alert the moderators to close out all new threads as everything N55 has obviously been beaten to death. Only people that have gotten their next cool car should be allowed to come back and put us commoners in our place. Versus trashing guys that don't have your tech competency, maybe you could give a hint out instead of coming off like a snot nosed millennial raised on a smartphone and Facebook.

The "re-wiring" you speak of is done for cars that didn't come with paddle shifters, since most people go from basic steering wheel to sport steering wheel they have to wire the shifter to work with the paddles.
Your LCI 335i is plug and play with an M3 steering wheel, the only difference is that the M3 wheel has openings for DCT paddles which are slightly different then LCI paddles, if you are getting both the DCT paddles and the M3 wheel then you shouldn't have a problem installing it. If you are just getting the wheel, then the LCI paddles are not going to sit flush on the wheel but unless you really look at it you won't notice it. |

Calm down grandpa
Using the search button and have common sense to read and scroll through threads is not technical copitency If someone doesn’t have enough common sense to think a topic covered on a 6+ year old car hasn’t been covered nor can they figure out that searching for that topic might give them answers Then theyre just plain stupid or lazy The search button wasn’t created to sit there and look pretty If anything its snot nosed people that think they’re good enough to ask questions and have others do the research for them instead Nobody knows the wiring to a steering wheel off of the top of their heads, they probably would have searched to get OP the answer which he could have easily done himself |

Resistors:
4.99k ohm 1.18k ohm 348 ohm 6.2k ohm Wiring Diragram: Currently the M3 DCT paddles are wired into Pin 2 and 3. When I do the splicing as depicted, do I move the cable in the middle (pin 2) from pin 2 -> into pin 1 and then add resistors as depicted? or do I need to do something special when moving the wires/pins around. Capt Awesome, e92_bryan you guys seem to have done this before, any guidance would be really appreciated. And no, its not that im too lazy to search, ive covered every thread on the topic, before creating this, just trying to make sure im doing this correctly. |
