I got them polished years ago. They removed the paint which was 3/16" thick in some areas by dipping them into a tank of paint remover and polished the entire rim inside and out. The finish isn't as good as chrome but they are very easy to keep clean and shiny.

Thanks Shane for this info. I will try some. It may save me polishing the rims every year.

With bare metal, do they rust or get the little rust dots on them at all?

There has never been any rust. I didn't think aluminium alloy would rust anyway. If you have salt water (sea water) spray on them, they get a film on them which requires polishing off. This would be due to a low level of corrosion. The Sharkhide metal protection that Shane recommended would solve this issue.

Replaced all my conti 5p tires with new conti 5ps all round for summer. Originally ordered the new Conti 6's that are almost as good as the current michelins pss from reviews but a three month waiting time was no good as it's a new tire design so I chose 5ps again..Third time having 5ps all round and what a great tire. So satisfying going up to the car and seeing these new tyres fill the arches nicely. Conti 6 is highly recommended for all but nothing available until March 2017 due to 335i fitment..

For those that want to know whats new with conti 6. Improvement on centre steering input as 5p input was a tad slow in reaction, and 12% increased grip in the dry. In the wet they were stunningly effective so not much change in the wet and apparently reduced tire noise. Mind you the 5ps are very quiet. I'll add review of the conti 6 when I get my hands on them..

Needed new rear tyres for my E90 2007. Tried to buy 265/30R19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport (On I think VMR 8" wide +35 offset) and Tempe told me they wouldn't fit and to wait for 255's. Reading the sticky in our Australian section, it says they would. Anyway, my wife is due with our second child, so I took a chance with Bridgestone Potenza S001's 255/30R19. Haven't even done 200km on them yet, but they are gripping much better than the Kuhmo's I had on there. Will get pics soon.

Beautiful day in Melb today. Best of all got to hang out with Vince on a marathon maintenance day... did a walnut blast, replaced coolant hoses, installed a new HPFP and starter motor, super washed engine and under body (so clean now) fixed a pesky oil leak and coded new battery...

Big day... Big thanks to Vince at Yoda Motorsports, for pulling the car to bits and putting it back together again.... LEGEND

The Sharkhide products can't be shipped to Australia and there is no agent in Australia to buy them from that I know off.

Had some MOSFET chips in my ECU replaced as they blew after a coil went causing a misfire.
PROTIP: If you have a CEL with misfire and you're not getting pulse to the injectors it's probably a $100 fix for the ECU chips + Coils.
