I thought I was just being a noob but I can't find it anywhere.

I would much appreciate it if you could let me know WOPALX if there is a way to access those features...

I think that $495 is a bit much for something that would cost them at most $5 to produce. I would pay $50 at most, or about the price of a new street directory.

I am not happy about the whole navi situation anyway, being one of the original owners of Business Navigation - without maps, and now that a new version is available, they won't do a software update to give my car that capability because they added the iDrive "shortcut" buttons as part of the upgrade... oh well, will fix that when I update my car at 80,000kms

Paying for a nav system and then not having maps is BS. I hope BMW refunded or didn't charge you for the system.

As for the cost of the maps, Sensis charge around $300 for a new version so while $495 is a bit OTT, you would expect that with BMW, however i'd also expect it TO WORK !!!! Remember - a lot of work goes into a new software release that has to be paid for somehow. Your not just paying for a disk. If we didn't have to pay for the R&D, development and tooling costs that goes into our cars then we shouln't pay any more than $20,000 for them.

Update:

I have made 3 phone calls to BMW trying to access the 'new features'.

I then went there this morning and spoke with a master tech, they have heard nothing about the 'new features' but he is going to investigate for me.

Hopefully will have an answer tomorrow.

I just saw this post for the first time today after listing my Version 14 in the For Sale section.

I also bought Version 14 two weeks ago but sadly sold my 335i last Friday. I am offering V14 for just $250 on a first come basis - which is a bargain.

Wopalx - thank you again for your technical phone support re my PROcede de-install. And yes.... my PROcede V2 will soon be up for sale at a bargain price. Those with a PROcede can verify the sheer brilliance of this product.

Cheers,

CaptOz

I moved into a 911. I love the M3 but it's too similar to the 335i to justify the change. Hopefully I can still attend the odd drive day.

Cheers,

Now that is the natural step up from a BMW. I hope to mirror that in the future !!

It's a 2005 911 Carrera S manual with a few options Brad.

I picked it up last Friday. It's a fun drive Kim. Mind you, so was the BMW.

G'day GeriFix,
It's probably no less legal to copy the DVD and mail it, than to up/down load it. Nevertheless, would you consider doing the former for me? I had no problems making a working back-up copy of my Version 12 disk. Alas it's now pretty dated, but $495 for a new v14 is just out of the question!

It is crazy that you pay so much for a car and then BMW expect that you pay more for their crappy DVD. (Seriously easy to burn a backup copy - I don't even keep the original in the car, in case I need to pull it out, so I always use the backup copy - anyone need a backup?)

I have V14 and lent it to my brother who has a 1 series (I think it is a 2005) and it wouldn't recognise it at all - does anyone know why?

Yep - i'd be happy to guinea-pig a back-up copy in my 325. Dealer did a major system software update 12 mths ago, and there were some changes to the way the nav system worked thereafter, so perhaps v14 will work. Has your brother had such an upgrade?

BMW just don't get it though. The $330 Tomtom One XL has so many more features built in than their satnav, mine has the no-map/no 3D display and cost a whopping $3600 in 2005, albeit with i-Drive as well. So they should be offering free map and poi upgrades as a matter of course. Could you e-mail me re the back-up - thanks.

Unfortunatly technology dates faster than the looks of the car. For every good reason to have GPS built into the car, I can think of 10 reasons not to.

For those looking for a factory fit look to a portable, BMW have just released a docking pod for a Garman unit for the 1 and 3 series. I saw one on a 1 ser coupe the other day and the dealer told me it was available for the 3 ser as well. Looked good with no wires visable. Turns on and off with the car.
