For a car with comfort access I believe that is the case.

thought you might find this info useful.. happy to provide P/N if needed
What's the part # (w/ comfort access) and how do you reprogram it? Thanks.

There are only 10 possible combinations of codes for keys for any particular vehicle. So if you lose 10 keys, they'll have to repeat a code, so technically at some point you could have a few keys that work for your car...

Hi,

How did you get your mate to purchase the key? Don't you need to show proof of ownership by providing Registration paper and License. I have a freind in Germany on holidays that is willing to help.

Thanks

Bimmernav sells these keys as well. They get them directly from BMW Germany and they are exactly what comes with the car when new. Sourced from BMW headquarters directly. http://www.bimmernav.com/url/key and http://www.bimmernav.com/url/keyfob

Price for new key

Having followed this thread for a while and tried most lines of enquiry, just thought I'd try one more time for any bright ideas.

As I have only one key (330i with electronic type and stop/start button) and getting a bit uneasy I've been looking for options for a spare.

So far:
- ECS advise that they can't supply coded keys
- BMW Germany will not supply keys directly and direct you to local dealer
- Local dealer (Rolfe Classic) quotes "about $850" to produce a spare - need to provide VIN and ownership details of course.

Looks like I'll just have to stump up the $850.

Chris, how did your car being stolen? where? Rivervale?
and how could they start the car if they do not have the keys?
I am living in Bentley, pretty unsafe too somehow...

Anyway, the only thing I didnt get back was the key, thinking this would be a $300 cost, I wasnt overly phased (I assumed $300 based on the fact that Subaru charge $150 for a key.. double this to get BMW stealer ship pricing).

Suffice to say I just about fell off my chair when I emailed my BMW SA today and asked for a price for a new key (well, as they described it, Key + Remote + Programming)

Total cost $914!, I understand that everyone needs to make a profit, but JESUS.

To put it in perspective, you can buy a new 320i with comfort access for ~$55k demo of the dealers floor with Comfort access.. if you loose a key, it will cost you nearly 2% of the purchase price to replace it!

Anyone have any ideas or contacts where I can get a replacement key for Less than $900????

(And for those of you that are about to suggest insurance, the excess is $800, and given there is no other damage to the car, it would not be worth making a claim, as whilst I have maximum NCB and protection, I will still get screwed on future policies!)
