The bolts are connected to the OEM DPs though.

These sizes are false, where did you get your information? Too thick and too long. Even for the gasket. Check your info before you post and make people buy the wrong shit and damage their parts.

So why not just tell the guy what size to use?

I've used 5/16-18 x 1 1/4" long or 8mm-1.25mm x 35mm long.

A little longer is not a problem at all; the hard part is getting a wrench on the bolt head on the downpipe side of the flange which is not influenced by bolt length.

Stainless is OK but get high quality. Cheapo hardware store stuff has tendency to gall and most stainless will rust if you get it hot enough. I prefer to use 316 from a quality supplier. If you want to get it locally, find a marine supply store. Silicon-bronze is a better way to go but is usually hard to find locally.

If your truly curious, because I drilled out my gasket and down pipe bolt flanges, and cut the bolt lengths to make it work. Would have rather bought the right shit off the bat instead of having to mod nice parts. Im sure you'd fee the same.

Just gonna take a guess and say he figured it out after 10 years. Oh, and he hasn't logged on in 6 years.
