Problem with iDrive?

I ran a search but couldn't find this.... Does anyone have a problem with selecting down on iDrive...it seems like I have to press it alot of times for the option to select "down". i.e. Entertainment..or going to the lower tab on Navigation, etc..

Not exactly sure how to interpret the description you give but options should either be a relatively brief push or a longer push, not multiple pushes or presses.

Something is wrong. The haptic controller is very responsive normally.

THis happens in mine now and then in various menus. Sometimes the system lag's 1-2 sec and i find myself pressing it repeatedly. If it happens every time i suggest taking it to the dealer. Try pressing it down once and waiting 2 sec to see if it anything happens.

It can take a few seconds sometimes, but I found a neat shortcut reading these posts...say you are in the main menu, and want to go back to your last location before exiting....navigation map for instance, you would just hold the knob to the right for 3 seconds and it takes you right there, not having to go through the submenu's. This is the same with fm presets, etc.

i also agree that it's just a system lag. the thing can get really slow so sometimes it take longer to register certain events, if they're not skipped altogether.

I had a long chat to my dealers Tech Guy about this.

I too was unhappy about it's responsiveness..

He explained ( and he is correct ) the controller is extremely sensitive to the position you push it.

e.g. if you need to push it up, if you watch the natrual position of your thumb and fore finger when in the car, it is about 5pm position and not the 6:00pm position necessary, this causes a push up in a NNW position instead of N (North) and this causes it to be non responsive.

Since he toldme this I started to carefully position my hand in eactly 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions and sure enough it is very responsive and works fine.

That said when it is done like this there is a slightly un natural feel to the position.

Thanks..I kind of noticed that as well..If you tried at a different angle it would work a little better....I'll see if I keep focused on that if it does anything....
