MAF Sensor question

I have a 2007 328i it’s e90 if you don’t know. Completely stock so I recently added a Spectre cold air intake. It wasn’t a prebuilt set I just bought some spectre couplers and spectre intake fittings to complete it. I installed it and connected the MAF sensor to the housing but it didn’t fit but I let it be cuz the car was fine. After 4 days rough idle, stalling, and CEL happened. Code said MAF sensor faulty so I’ve now bought 2 different aftermarket MAF’s and they don’t work, car runs fine without MAF plugged in. Just wondering if I can run with stock air box or the spectre intake without the MAF plugged in
