Steering rack took a bang
So I was jacking up ole Betty and the jack slipped forward onto the steering rack.
Afterwards taking a drive, there’s a heap more play in the steering now, about an inch/inch and a half of free play on the highway compared to none before the incident. This sound like a new steering rack? Lol

Don’t have covers lol I’ve had a look. Just two small nicks on the casing where the edges of the jack cup hit. I was thinking it might of loosened some parts in the steering system, didn’t check for play when I was under it thought it was fine so taking it to Pedders tomorrow for an inspection. Hopefully a magic alignment will sort it out lol

If you know a better place in the Gold Coast, I’m not familiar with the places up here and I’m driving to Melbourne on thursday so want this sorted ASAP lol.
Ironic I literally changed my tires earlier cause they were worn and wanted better handling for the trip and now I have this pretty problem haha |

Sorry man I'm not familiar with Gold Coast. Only asking as I've only heard unfavourable things about them and have also had personally bad experience with them. Simply said all I needed was a lower profile tyre and some camber dialed into the rear but instead I was told that I was sold wrong sized wheels or something along those lines by them. 🤷🏻*♂️

I had a similar issue when I did a track day a few months ago. Unfortunately, hit a corner pretty hard and knocked my steering rack. Ever since then, had a fair bit of play in the steering wheel. Did a 4 wheel alignment at Beaurepaires and they only made matters worse. I tried to get Beaurepaires to take another look but they simply waved me off and told me I needed to see a "suspension" specialist. I then took my car to Pedders Suspension in South Melbourne 2 days ago and WOW..... what a difference!! The guys went to the effort of putting my car up on the alignment hoist and noticed the bolts were loose on my steering rack. They've now tightened it and my car is feeling much better. If you want a steering rack specialist, definitely go see the guys at Pedder Suspension in South Melbourne. |

All sorted I grabbed a rack of Jekl on the way to Melbourne. I stopped at a local mechanic and got quoted $600 for a swap which I declined lol.
Yeah socks had the wizard of oz do it for me thanks Vince. Was pretty funny when I had the alignment done the bloke said he took care of the tire pressures too, which ended up being 47 psi. Lol |
