Looking at most cost effective options here. Coming with a 06 E90 with blueooth Prep. If I was to go CIC, I would need the usual things plus combox retrofit and ftz for bluetooth speaker (rather OEM look).

NBT EVO retrofit, I can avoid cost of combox. However, would I still need to do the OBD ENET rewiring? Or do the retrofit harnesses avoid doing this? I've been seeing recent write-ups not mentioning this part.

I didn't touch my obd to add Ethernet, I just have an Ethernet cable tucked behind my glove box that I can pull out if I need to code the Evo.

I had the same setup as well.

It does work for me on KCAN2. I am using EVO with CarSystems adapter with latest firmware.

1. You can save personal settings to USB before coding and restore after. Have a look at TAL steps in ESYS.
2. Yes. You could use DHCP, or connect to static IP on USB-Ethernet interface. You could also have a wireshark listening in the background for ARP packets - it will contain the new IP of headunit

Looking at Realoem I noticed the F30 roof antenna (CIC and NBT) are different than the F30 LCI (and thus NBT EVO) roof antennas, at least with USA cars.

Do you know the difference?

There *might* be an extra output plug from what I diagrams and pictures I can find?

What is HW Code on your iDrive 5 unit?

HW Code?

I am wondering if all HW Code 4.x are iDrive 6.

Does anyone know how the EVO checks the VIN of the ZGW in a F-series? Through CAN2 or Ethernet?

Am trying to figure out something for my e81.

The CAS sends the VIN across CAN2. EVO verifies that it matches and will lock out if it does not. In F series, you need a CAN VIN filter. In E series you need a CAN <-> CAN2 gateway with VIN filtering and message translation (e-nbt adapter fills this role).
ZGW does not send out the VIN, so it is okay if it does not match.
ATM and EVO VINs have to match for the ATM and EVO to communicate and activate BMW services.

Thank you! This is exactly where I was looking for.
So I can have a ZGW (with VIN mismatch) connected to KCAN2 at the same time as I've got the e-NBT adapter connected to KCAN2 without any problems?

I'm currently trying to get the BMW HeadUpScreen Retrofit KIT for Factory Navigation to work in a e-series with NBT EVO.
Already managed to get the navigation instructions to work, but want the SpeedLimitInfo as well, but for that I need a ZGW connected I think.

How do you plan to mount the actual HUD? Is there even enough room in there? HUD units are fairly deep and the dash supports on Fxx's have large openings reserved for the display.

It has to be hard fixed to some support before the dash is installed in order for you to able to adjust it for clarity in the windshield.

Oh, and how do you plan to connect it to the cluster? They use the data off the cluster via HSD wire to display the info.

Btw, is there any way to use an Fxx kombi through eNBT on Exx cars?

I'm considering putting an F30 dash and console into my E90 for an NBT retrofit, really don't want to use the double hump E9x dash.

The i8 cluster 1/2 worked in my E90. The F series clusters take pt can instead of k can 1. I would try hooking a f30 cluster up to pt can before you pull the dash.

Hey guys,

Fellow NBT/EVO retrofitter here looking for some advice since I like the details that haven provided in this thread.

I'm looking to make a voltage regulator for my CID cable and earlier saw a post recommending a step DOWN converter, not sure why? If EVO (ID5/6) puts out ~8.5V and a APIX1 screen requires 12V, shouldn't a step UP converter be used?

One of these should work, correct? Not sure which to choose

The evo pumps out 13.xx volts and the nbt next screen needs 8.7.

Whoa, I don't know why but I had it mixed up this entire time. I thought the EVO output was less than NBT. I measured both of my units on the bench.

Okay, so running an NBT screen (APIX1) with an EVO HU, needs a BUCK regulator. So looks like I bought the correct one. I'll have to return the boost regulator then.

How is your regulator working? Has it been reliable? Or did you purchase yours from CarSystems?

The Car Systems ones are not that good. I would buy a 10 pack of buck converters on Amazon for $10 and solder it inline. Also I think the screen gets straight car power. I got over 13v with my evo on my test bench.
