Dinan Stage 2 installed today....first impressions
Well, I decided to go for the Dinan Stage II software today, I know it costs more but I do like the warranty coverage, even though some have had issues with coverage. My dealership is good about these things and my sales rep (sales manager) was the one who has the stage 2 installed in his car too, and he has known me for 10 years now so I should not have any issues if something comes up, unless i was obviously racing or something.
Well, so far I do like the changes. I notices right away it was a little more touchy with the throttle. Sorta like the "sport" mode that was on my E46 M3, little jumpier and seems to want to accelerate quicker on less throttle. VERY responsive though, and pulls like a beast. I drove it tonight with the window down to listen to it. Definitely louder turbo whine, especially middle of the RPM range on open throttle. Torque comes in hard around 3500 RPM or so and really snaps you back. Used to feel a little smoother on acceleration, now it is smooth, then kicks you in the face a little. Feels much more aggressive, although some may not like it being less smooth. I like the kick in the ass acceleration like this, really rips 1st to 3rd. I did a very unscientific 0-60 run (speed limit was 55) from a stop and came to around 4.5 or so. I would like to get a real test done at some point, but I believe it was sub 5 for sure. Overall I like it so far. Only had it one day so far, but you can feel a difference for sure. Makes it from a nice, smooth, fast family car to a nice, aggressive kick in the pants fast family car.... |

You should go racing. That's the whole point of a flash or piggyback. Enjoy the flash and maybe add an fmic or an intake for more power down the line (dinan of course).

u should use the 2k and enjoy it by going racing at the drag strip or closed private roads and having the reassurance of warranty with dinan is more reason to do it. If u feel u shouldn't bother testing the limits or capabilities of a performance flash then your the dumb ass.

•damage to the clutch due to power shifting or abuse •engine damage resulting from altered boost pressure •any vehicle operated in any competitive event SO what does the warranty cover? Im not saying he shouldn't enjoy the added performance that the flash provides... but just from reading DINAN's own limited warranty, you enjoy it at your own risk... Because it's not covered by warranty...

Holy crap! The dinan warranty basically says it does cover the engine? Shoot...... Going with dinan for what they offer is one thing, but i hope that nobody picks dinan for the warranty because dinan is the only tune that guarantees bmw will know about it.
Where is a dinan s2 in terms of jb3?

The only way would be if the person was stupid enough to say he tracked the car when the fault occurred... Hopefully no one on this forum is that dense, but ya never know...

Dinan stage 2 on the last car and loved every minute of it. Once the new car is broken in Dinan stage 2 will be going on it

Dinan stage 3 + catted DP's here. No problems and tracked it for a weekend last november with no overheating issues whatsever.
A juicebox tune or Procede tune(on 91 Octane) will probably be around 20-30whp higher. However, if you have the stage 3 it is more like 20whp. My car is pretty solid for the tune it has. I can't justify going Procede with the numbers I have on dyno's. I am getting 335whp on a Mustang Dyno with no fan, 70 degree weather. I would have to think I am around 350whp on a dynojet at least. This is how I see it. Dinan Pros: 1)Warranty in tact and peace of mind. 2)No pulling chips out of my engine bay everytime I must see a bmw dealer. 3)Pretty solid power/torque numbers 335whp/360wtq Dinan Cons: 1)No tune adjustment for race gas. 2)No valet settings or adjustments at all. 3)For turbo swaps Dinan is worthless unless you only want 14psi. Stock ECU's will only go that high. That is why a piggyback is needed to get above to 15,16 or 18 psi tunes.
