Upgrade/possible distortion?
So i am doing an upgrade to my sound system. Ill be replacing my front door speakers and tweeters to focal krs's. Putting the earthquakes under the seats. Finally putting a single w6 in the back. Anyways was wondering if i'm going to get any distortion/fuzziness from stock speakers when having the volume up? Should i cut some speakers out or leave them as fillers cause i feel like just having the new speakers going by themselves will sound weird? better options?

Your leaving the stock rears in? Just adjust the fader to the front until you cant hear the rears anymore and you should be fine.

Yeah I mean for now until I get the money to upgrade the rest, what shall I do with the center speaker in the front though? And like I said won't it sound a bit weird with just the front playing?

Which BMW system are you starting out with ?
Which BMW system are you starting out with ?
What are you using for and Amp? Some feel a good stereo system is superior to a surround system . Is all mostly recorded in stereo. |

Can't remember the amp for the sub but it's an audison and then I'm using a jl 600 something to power the front speakers, tweets and under seats. Oh and I'm starting with the 13 speaker system( top hifi I believe)

How exactly did you plan to grab the signals for the new amps?

Nope haha otherwise I wouldn't be asking, I'd know already. Also could I sufficiently power my sub with another amp less expensive than the audison, what makes them so much money?

Why JL amp for the fronts and an Audison for the sub? Is that what the shop suggested? What type of enclosure will the sub be in?
You better get a solid plan together based on the experiences of this forum, otherwise you could be in for a rough awakening!

I don't know. Originally they wanted to power the front tweeters, speakers, underseats, and w6 all of this giant audison amp. Then they said the better way to go would be to power the sub off the audition and speakers tweeters and underseats off jl. The w6 would be going in the prowedge box. Not sure if I should scrap w6 and just replace all speakers in car except for deck and possibly center

Yikes, take a deep breath and then read the audio table of contents sticky, lots of useful info in there and some examples of upgrades for your Logic 7 system. After that, come back here and continue to ask questions if you like, and we'll be glad to help guide you in the right direction.

Will do that but I already know that I want the focals, I've heard them and to me they sound awesome ontop of that I'm gettin a decent discount and I have credit at the store. My only two questions are am I'm going to get those lows with the underseats? And the question I asked before why would they want me to power the w6 off the audison other than to make more money off me or is that the only reason?

You only need one amp for the front speakers, underseats, and sub. The rears and center aren't really necessary.
http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-PDX-V9-.../dp/B007VSXGOQ Since you are adding a trunk sub Jehnerts or Mb Quarts would be a better choice for midbass. You should consider a corner enclosure or an infinite baffle setup with the w6, either one would be more efficient than just throwing a prefabbed box in the trunk. I am also curious on how they are planning on getting the signal to the aftermarket amp. Make sure you buy the proper connectors and Technic's harness so they don't cut any factory wires. |

Yeah the front speakers and tweeters will be my second purchase. the amps i listed above were for powering the sub and if those would work? Im not 100 percent sure on how they plan on doing it but i"m going to call them tomorrow and find out. Why would tapping into wires be a bad thing? also ive been wondering about the harness, is that just for the trunk sub or for the speakers too?

Why wouldn't tapping wires be a bad thing? Technics harness is made for adding a trunk sub, but it can be modified for other uses. Speaker connectors can be purchased from the dealer. You need to do some more research. By making blind decisions you're just gonna be throwing money at it. Don't expect the audio shop to make the best choices for you. Don't trust the audio shop to know what they are doing either, most of them don't. |

Well thanks for the obvious on that first part that's why I gave you guys two amps to choose from. You say how can you make the decision from the info provided? I'm pretty sure thoughout the whole thread I've given you everything. 12" w6, ho wedge box, possibly audsison amp to power, but if not will the other to work and which would you recommend. Haha you guys are kind of like politicians and just work your way around a question without giving a direct answer. And yes I'd agree that cutting wires when you don't have to is a bad thing. However I trust this shop to know what they are doing, all they do is work on high end cars, in fact the dealerships personally bring their cars here to get work done. And personally unless you get to listen to everything in your car ahead of time ur always going to be making a "blind" decision. It's hard to go off reviews because something is always guna have it's pros and cons. I'd be throwing money at something like morels or rainbows because I've never personally heard them before and considering shops around here to carry them I'm prolly never going to. All I'm asking is to the answer to the questions that I have, I don't need the run around and a bunch of links. There is a reason I ask you guys cause this is what they told me and I wanted to get your advice on the setup given

Ask yourself these questions:
- what do you not like about the OEM system? - what are your goals for improvement? - do you care about about keeping the car in an OEM look and condition? - how much money do you want to spend?
