Question Rev Match?

When cruise control is activated, the car does rev match when downshifting. Do you think it is possible to activate the rev match through coding for normal driving (MT)?

Huh?

When you go to shift an MT car on cruise, how would it know whether you were shifting up or down?

When you press the clutch, the cruise control temporarily suspends. It resumes shortly after releasing the clutch (probably long enough for the software to check that you aren't in neutral - haven't played with that).

I just don't see coding getting you psychic rev matched downshifts on an MT when using cruise control.

Have no idea, how it knows about downshifting, but last night I was cruising and had to downshift. When I depressed the clutch and moved to a lower gear the revs automatically went up and matched it. So, I assume the computer somehow detects it and assists with rev matching during the cruise control. So, why not during the normal driving?

Does upshifts too. It is in official literature but am surprised they only implemented when cruse control on.

Well, I played around with this on the weekend.

I had never even noticed this, since you have to sit there with the clutch pushed and observe which is not something I do in normal driving. On my 2007 328i 6MT the ECU would hold the revs from dropping below the proper RPM for the next higher gear. If you were already in 6th it would simply hold revs correct for the corresponding road speed.

There was certainly no downshift rev matching.
