Start out low, like 0 . With 4 ohm speakers I would say the the doors may be
close to zero and the floors somewhere around almost halfway . Start with zero and turn them up slowly if you hear noise or distortion it's to much. The floors should be able to take some gain no matter if there 2 or 4 ohm if there 2 it will be less. |

Real quick, I was gonna ask if tuning my amp for the under seat subs will effect my 2 12s? To get a source for RCAs for my sub amp I used a line out converter and spliced into the sub wires from the stock harness. If I tune the nee JL amp for the under seat subs, will my 2 12s get the same limiting as the under seats? Also, if something does happen with that, is there a way i could just run an RCA from my JL amp to my sub amp?

If you are tapping the Radio outs and not the speaker outs
for your sub no . If you are tapping the speaker outs of the new amp then it will effect it . Always you the Low level outputs from your radio to feed your amps is a basic rule for car stereo . The idea is to get the under seats to pick up some of the mid range and mid bass. Avoid using Speaker outs if you can . This makes a much cleaner setup . Most amps will accept low level signals. Pre amp signals . Also with a new amp the speaker level outs will be at a much higher voltage. subwoofer threads http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...2&postcount=66 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=Ultimate+Sub http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ight=subwoofer Last edited by ctuna; 01-12-2019 at 01:35 PM.. |

If you are using RCA connectors for the Input to the amp just
go to the electronics store and buy some y connectors to spit the input signal to have a set to feed the Sub. Also It might not make that much difference but its a more correct solution. I don't know if that particular amp has a pass through. I would try to tune the new amp with the subs dissonected at first. |

Buy some RCA splitters If you are using RCA inputs. For the Input to the sub amp. Run them off the FR/FL channel and be sure to tape the outside connectors of the RCA's as its a speaker out cable and the shield is and active signal not a ground.
Put tape around the shields of the RCA's going to the amp at the splitter. Does your sub amp accept low level signals (pre outs)? You could just leave it the way it is for now probably won't make much difference you may have to adjust the gain on the sub amp. |

Well I just plugged everything in including the power/ground wires and everything was good to go so I went to play music and there was absolutely no sound and as soon as I plugged in the technic harness to the car, my sub amp came on.

Do you have a voltmeter?
Do you have a Technic Harness. Did you run power wires to the Battery with a Fuse. for the New Amp What technic calls the power kit. If you grounded it on the chassis is there 0 resistance between the negative terminal on the amp and battery and or 0 volts in-between when powered on. If the voltage at the battery and amp are not the same you have resitive connection somewhere. If you attached the ground to a painted or annodized surface it will not make a good contact. Most amps have indicator Leds that tell you whats going on. Check the Voltages at the battery and the amp are they the same? The technic harness uses a relay and the old 12 volt power line is used to switch it . This is done so the turn on signal has enough juice to switch on multiple amps. Alright so I just got back from the shop. It ended up costing me $45, and the problem had something to do with the relay on the technic harness. Anyway, as I expected, my subs are now nowhere close to hitting as low as they were. How can I fix this?

Could I run an RCA from the preouts on the JL amp to the regular RCA plugs on the sub amp?
If not, could I turn the filter off for the underseat subs since thats what is causing the issue? |

Why don't you take it back to the shop and ask them to
attach the subs such that they run off the Radio outs Inputs to the amp bypassing and getting rid of the speaker out adapter. (If possible) and have them readjust the gains and crossovers to your taste. Also the thing is now you actually have some mid range and high end that won't be swamped out by the low end. |

I just tried a few different things and noticed that when I only insert the rear RCA into the preouts of the JL amp, the subs seem to hit how they used to. Could I leave it like this..?

If you don't need the rear outputs of the radio for anything else
it should be OK. Then you can use the Fader to control the balance between the Subs and the stuff attached to the JL if I am understanding what you are saying correctly. If it works and doesn't smoke it should be Ok. Why don't you run it but the guy that straightened out your wiring. |
