Visit me in Grays as you are fairly local to me.

Forgive my ignorance Colin, im new to BMW ownership. Ive got an E92 on a 56 plate with professional navigation with I drive. It looks like i just order Option 1. The cars pretty old so would it require some other update first? What are the changes like that it mentions? I dont want to pick it up, install it, then regret it lol.

Cheers

Just email the guy telling him what you've got, including the version number from the navigation options, and he'll tell you which option you need. He's very responsive. I got the code by return of email and the discs the following day. He'll need your VIN number for the code.

I updated my CIC Pro Nav a couple of weeks ago. Car is a 60 plate that came with 2010 maps, upgraded to 2014-1 Europe maps for £20 via an eBay seller. Just had to message them the VIN to get the activation code and downloaded the maps from the Internet.

Is it true that you can the sat nav to work using UK post codes rather than just street and city ? It's the one thing I don't like about the BMW iDrive on my car, 2006 E91.

- ignore - just been to the website mentioned above - looks like you can

Not on the old CCC version. The CIC version supports 7-digit postcode.

You can, but it's not seamless as it does it by using POIs.

It's not a very comprehensive postcode database either, I regularly come up with missing codes for places that have been there for years, and that's using 2014-1 maps

Sounds like mixed reviews then. How much do you have to pay to get the real deal update at a BMW dealership?

so, looking at http://bmwnavigation.co.uk and the points raised above, you pay £20 (not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things but ...) and still have the shag and hassle of finding 7 digit postcodes via the POI, and as mentioned by Ian, the list isn't always complete ? Not sure now....

I don't know what themanthatcan means by "it's not seamless as it does it by using POIs", if I put a postcode into the Sat Nav I'm offered the road (or place) that uses the postcode, provided it's in the database of course!

I've got the CIC and the implementation might be different from the CCC but my 7 digit post codes work as you would expect in the town/post code field. The thing you can't get wit the CIC is the safety cameras.

I might take the plunge anyway and see how it works out - my £100 tom-tom in my old car was sooo much easier, pfff!

I don't know how the SatNav is in the UK, but the one in the US is terrible. I am considering brining my 335d E90 with me, but an expensive upgrade to navigation (if it's even possible with radio frequencies perhaps being different), only to discover it's as bad there as it is here, does not sound appealing. Entry is difficult and streets are not named out loud as they are in just about every other navigation system.

I wouldn't say "entry is difficult" but it's not exactly user friendly.
Directions are given verbally but I can't say I've ever heard it tell me a street name
