Adding to the 'performance bargain' tag for me is that it is still a current shape car. Yes, there has been a modest facelift, but a very subtle one. There are plenty of other cars for £10k that are quick or quicker, but cant think of any, of the top of my head, that are as modern, as quick, and with all the kit that most e92's have.
I couldnt hack a 4 pot diesel either, despite doing 25k miles a year. Still wish they'd hold their value better though (wouldnt we all) . Even though mines Auto, 230's, Prof Nav, HFS, F&R PDC, etc, I cant imagine I'd get more than £12k with 74k miles on. It could well end up being the wifes runabout and I'll get something else. |

In early 2009 cars were so cheap it was untrue, dealers panicked and dumped stock, however, no one was buying new either and after a few months they realised no stock was coming in, so being in such short supply the prices crept up and up then by early 2010 the used prices were horrific. 335i's at 3 years old in 2009 could be had for £12k back then with good spec and really low miles. By 2010 40k 3 year old cars were back at up £25k, some at £30k. It is now starting to correct itself again and get more realistic. Just unfortunate if you bought in 2010. I bought an A6 3.2 quattro avant in Feb 2009, 2.5 years old, 30k miles with all the toys on it, it was up at £18950 and in the end I paid £12k for it with 4 new Pilot Sport 2s fitted and the Audi Music Interface fitted at a cost of £500. Sold it last May for £12k. Bought an E320cdi estate the same time and paid £17k for it, and I would be lucky to see £11k for it now. Can't worry about it really, £6k over nearly 3 years is not too bad. However, I am glad I didn't by from Mercedes main dealer as they were asking £22-28k for the same car. Now that would have hurt! |

Are 335i values just gonna keep on falling or would keeping my car for another year make more sense? I mean if its worth 12-13k now, it can't fall that much more in a year? |

The 3 series is a medium sized executive car. Paying £400 tax for a sports car is part of the deal but not for your run of the mill daily driver! |

I see the point and the benefits of a 320D, but comparing it to a 335 is just comparing apples and pears. |

Don't get me wrong the 335i is a brilliant car and if I could get insured on one i'd likely be driving one. Infact in a years time when i'm no longer a young driver I may swap into one.
But it's no surprise that the values are falling. The trend so far has shown that fuel/tax/insurance are all heading through the roof so for a twin turbo 3.0 petrol car that means cost hikes on all fronts. I do agree that there are a lot of people out there doing maybe 6k miles a year that are buying into the 2.0 derv market under misguided pretences. |

most buyers of a 10k car don't want 335i running cost's
if i only did 6k a year i would have one tomorrow, the thing about the 335i it was a 40k car new so its got 40k car running cost's even a set of tyre's would make most 10k car buyers weep. |

My 335i M Sport coupe certainly isnt a medium size executive car, it's a high performance sports car. Would never describe it as a run of the mill daily driver, it cost £41k new!! Please dont confuse a 335i with your 2.0 diesel. They are a million miles apart! The 335i is a competitor to a 911 3.6 carrera. The 2.0D is a competitor to a mondeo or any other rep mobile, although at least they do have the good looks with out the performance.

Had mine out today and got the chance to have a quick blast on a short section of NSL I had the window down it sounded immense!
Like someone has already said, fuel will need to be a LOT more expensive before I let that put me off. |

It's a good shout mate. When I eventually grow up I might join you (especially if the prices keep dropping ).

And how much work has Tony done to his car? Even then, its still not a "sports car"
A standard 335i laps the ring in 8:26, 997 Carrera S in 7:50. With all Tony's mods, whats his best laptime? As accomplished as the 335i is, and it is a performance bargain, it's not a sports car

I wouldn't know, but it was quicker than a Carrera S before he did the Turbos or blueprinting. Also, didn't the R26 Megane do about 8.30 and the R26R less than 8.20?
I've not checked, and nor shall I, but I don't suppose they are sportscars either.... But still quick as/er than the comparison 911. Matt |

Of course its a competitor to a 911. A 997 Carrera 3.6 has just 320bhp, thats just 14 bbp more than the twin turbo 335i. Infact a simple plug in JB+ will bring the power up to 350bhp for just £180. Then we are talking about 997 Carrera S 3.8 performance. Personaly I would luv a 997 Carrera. You think the 335i is a bargain, just check out 911 prices on AutoTrader.. But the Missus point blank refuse to even sit in one!!

You can pick up an early 57 plate M Sport coupe with around 50k miles for £15k these days. Even 08 efficient dynamic models can be had for under £17k
It's the same with all large engine cars at the moment. I know some one who picked up a mint 08 M3 coupe with just 30k miles for £22k a couple of weeks back!

So a 335i is twice the sports car a Lotus Elise is then? 760li has 540bhp, does that make it a sports car? Is an E92 335i a sports car but a 335i E90 isn't? Round a track, a standard 335i, or even a JB+ wouldnt see which way a 997 S went.
