Dang well that sucks, all they have in stock is for n55. I may give them a call on Monday

I bought an N55 one a couple of days ago, I'll post on here in a month or so when I install it. Hopefully no issues like your UUC one Biginboca!

I've broken two cowls because of those damn studs on my M3 strut brace. I'm not paying $400 for a used M3 cowl with broken tabs and I'm not paying $750 for a new one lol.

I finally bought a new e90 cowl and I found a BMW part number for a bolt that's supposedly shallow enough to eliminate the clearance issues with it hitting the cowl. I ordered some and I'll keep ya posted if it works for me. If not, I'm gonna get out the grinder like you did lol. I thinik I may shave the bottom of my cowl too, maybe make it half the thickness it is at that spot to make sure they don't contact. Sick of breaking them haha

I just read your whole thread. Your car is awesome, and your resolve to chase the handling and weight through upgrading things like spindles and carbon roof (!!!) is impressive. I wish I could get my e91 down around 3k. Someone a few pages back said that your car should be in a magazine. I agree- I think Speedhunters or some outfit like that ought to do a feature.

When you're timing 50-80, are you holding a steady 50, and starting the clock when you hit the gas, or are you already at full throttle acceleration and starting the clock when the needle crosses 50? I realize it's there's no "start the clock", that it's all in the software, I'm just curious about the procedure.

If it's "hit the gas and start the clock" at 50, I'm nowhere near 4 seconds. 5500ft altitude, thicc wagon, and 3.23 gears are detrimental. 3.73 diff goes in this weekend.

Thanks man! Appreciate the compliments on the build. I’m starting at like 45mph, mashing the gas, and then the timing software does the work as the car passes 50mph it starts timing.

Great call on the 3.73 swap. You won’t regret that!

Btw, if you haven’t seen the thread yet check out Scott’s tetsuo111 E91 wagon build. He’s done a great job with a lot of similar mods, some of which inspired my build. He definitely has my favorite N52 e91 on the forum.

So last night was the last ever SCCA track night in America at my home track, Palm Beach International Raceway. The track is being sold to a land developer and torn down. The track calendar has been cleared and no more events scheduled. Very sad about this because it is only 30 mins from my house and I made many friends going there regularly the past year or so.

The good news is the 328csl performed amazingly last night! I had an epic battle with a 2006 e46m3:

After our warm up lap in the first session I gave the CSL the beans and could not shake this guy for 2 laps. So I waved him by and set to chasing him which after 2 laps he couldn’t shake me and gave me a point by.

At the end of the night we both had the same best time a 1:37 which is a personal best for me… that I’ll never beat because the track is bye bye lol. I feel really good about this because my buddy with a manual e92m3 that is his track only car had a best time of 1:36 before he swapped from street tires to track tires, and I’m on street tires (PS4S).

I did have a couple issues in the last session misfires sent me into the pits twice and I called it a night. Very strange that it happened same place on the track both times coming down the back straight at full throttle in 4th gear around 7200-7300rpms WOT. Both times after a restart the car was fine and it’s driving fine today so I’m not sure what the issue is. This was after already doing 2 x 20 mins sessions all out also.

This was start of last session I passed a new Blue BRZ, a Grey Lotus, a Red Corvette, and was about to go hunting on another Blue lotus when the misfire sent me off the track:

A quick pit and restart and I dropped back into the track behind a Blue Camaro SS and a Grey F-Type and we all passed a track Miata and were making great time when my misfire returned in the same part of the track and I called it a night.

Sad to say below are the final pics ever from PBIR with my track buds who I met there and we always went together. We shot these at the end of the night. The 128i is running N54 manifold, MILV’s, F30 Brembo’s, 255 square on Apex Arc8’s, etc of course and it’s a hoot I drove it on the track and loved it!

This is horrible. Having a track so close and then having it go away. Travesty.

So I did some digging today and found the source of my High RPMs misfire. 303bmw had it pegged, my fuel pressure regulator in the top of the driver side fuel tank is cracked. I actually thought it wasn’t cracked when I had a look and was baffled. I took a pic to show a buddy and I only saw the crack when I zoomed in on the pic…

So a new FPR is on order will tackle that this weekend. Meanwhile I spent some time picking roastbeef brain for weight loss suggestions. I went straight to the master of lightweight e9x cars lol

I shed 24lbs 10oz from the car today just going after some more low hanging fruit. Unfortunately it’s all coming off the rear today. My rear seat is deleted with a alumimum panel set I had ordered but always felt was heavy, and now I got around to removing some odds and ends that went with the rear seat that I hadn’t before.

First was the rear floor mats:

Then the rear seat folding latches and rear seat belts:

Then I took out the warning triangle with plastic mounts, and the sunroof tools (from my now deleted sunroof) in the trunk:

Lastly I took out my rear seat delete panels. There’s a upright and a base (horizontal bottom) part:

I decided I can get another 15-20lbs off the rear when I weighed some more parts. The flat base of the trunk liner is almost 9lbs and could easily be replaced with a large flat carbon panel with some automotive carpet on it, which would probably weigh 2-3lbs:

I also looked up the weight of this trunk bin which can also be removed and replaced with a flat carbon panel. It is 7lbs and in carbon would be about 1lb.

And lastly I looked under my car and saw the large aluminum flat bottom I made and it’s like 6-7lbs, but replaced with flat carbon sheet would save maybe 4-5lbs also:

So all told I think I’ve got a good plan for losing some more weight, when all is said and done these items from today and what’s planned would have me down 35-40lbs from my last weigh in at ~3100. But I want to get weight off the front of the car more than the rear, and that’s where things start getting really tough. I’m starting to think that through now. It would be great to get close to 3000lbs but I’m not willing to compromise comfort or safety, which is the challenge lol

I found another easy 5lbs. Since no back seat no need for this:

Can remove that back half of the console and a e90 rear cap will snap in its place:

So weight loss wheels are in motion. I have a new goal. I want to be at or under 3054lbs at my next weigh in. Why that number? This is why…

I’m not sure plastic windows belong on a daily driver… although I’m not sure they don’t either

More progress today! Got off over 6lbs from the cowling… for free! (Just need to buy some bms filters.). I was looking at the Turner cowl delete and it saves maybe 7lbs according to my math looking at realoem (they said “about 10lbs”?) and it cost like $250. Then I looked at the M cowlings and filters and they saved 3lbs and cost $800 new. So screw all that let’s do it for free…

I cut this large center section out but left the wall at the rear to direct water down and out to the sides. And I kept the ECU and brake reservoir covers in place, along with the foam on the underside that seals these covers against those areas.

This is the total weight of everything I deleted, the large cutout I showed above along the micro filters housing and the plastic wire carrier:

And this is how it looked in the car:

I tested it after with some water to see if there was any issues. From what I can tell it seems like it’s performing like OEM direction water away from the engine bay, and any water that leaks through would have anyway with the stock set up because it’s not going into the open area I cut but leaking through the cowling seal to the plastic under the windshield.

After that I got another 5lbs from inside the car by deleting the rear section of the center console.

I’ll add back a bit of that when I install the rear cap I have coming from a sedan. But still should be good for 4lbs loss with no function loss since I have no rear seat.

Best guess is the car is down to 3065lbs today but I’ll be adding back about 5lbs when I redo the rear seat delete. I ordered a large cosmetic carbon panel to remake the rear seat upright and I’m going to just carpet the rear area where the seat bottom cushion was. Here’s what’s going on back there as of now…

Dam well done!

IIRC the e90 rear ac trim section should cover that up nicely..? Also the trunk plastic lining is a pia to remove, needs to be taken out from underneath the car I think I remember reading on the m3 side, but doable. The bottom trunk lining section you can find a carbon piece to replace but all I could find was it covering the amp section, not the full part leading up to the trunk if you wanted something like that.

Also, does NRW make a n52 carbon engine cover? Cuz you could actually save like 2-3lb if you really wanted lol I was more surprised than I expected at how light theirs is compared.
I have the Turner cowl delete now too, after about 7 years of rocking it completely naked, but I really do appreciate that metal bracket for cleaning up the wiring harnesses. I posted pics before but it's super clean and can take engine cover off now in 20s total and boom plugs and coil maintenance right there.

Also on the fpr isnt there another crack at about 2 oclock from that spot also? There are a few little crack looking things there

Be interested to know how you find the engine noise after this. I was stunned at how loud it is without the cowl, when doing some test runs a while back. That was a diesel though...

I find that cowl delete water test very unconvincing. You can see plenty of water running through by the strut brace and onto the cylinder head. I've been dealing with just this issue as the water was pooling in the No. 6 injector port, causing corrosion. I've had to add an extra lip to the plastic valve cover to direct any water away from the head and down the rear of the engine. Just be aware...

Good info! Thanks for sharing that Phil I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for that. Are you running the plastic beauty cover on the motor when that happened?
