When you get this fault, what is your steering angle sensor reading in a straight ahead position?

Utilise live data mode on your diag tool. If it has that depth of coverage of course.

I have no experience with any of the above. Sure someone else will be able to advise you click by click. Failing that just play about with the software.

I’ll have a play around! What software do you prefer to use?

I own a multimake garage, so we're not committed heavily to any brand of vehicle.
My mainstay diagnostic tools are Texa Navigator, Delphi DS150e and Autel MS908 Pro. With other additional manufacturer specific equipment (generally the cheaper stuff) ie. VCDS for VAG and Opcom for gm.

I do have a K/D can cable and 5 software DVDs of BMW software but haven't got around to installing it yet.

Update: Was just messing about on tool32 and managed to reset the steering angle calibration, clear the codes, initialise the steering angle sensor and the codes/errors go for a drive and codes have not come back yet. This gives me more confidence that the fault is the steering angle/alignment. I’m sure the errors/codes will come back on after some more driving but it seems the four wheel alignment is a good move. Will update on Monday/Tuesday.

Hope the alignment fixes it for you.

UPDATE

So I had the alignment done on Monday morning, re-calibrated the sensor and cleared all the error codes. Since then I have done around 300 miles and no errors or loss of dsc, dtc etc. have occurred as yet and usually it would of by now Don't want to say too much just yet but the alignment apparently was quite far out according to the technicians and does drive a lot nicer now. If i get a chance ill upload the before and afters of the alignment process.

glad to hear it's working out now, if you have driven for 300 miles already, i think you could say it's all good.
