Alpine White
Thinking about respraying my car in Alpine White but I believe that there a few different Alpine Whites? (AW 1 and AW 2). Can anybody confirm this? A Paint code would also be great if anybody knows it.

Im not 100% sure but i know there is an alpine white and a mineral white with mineral being a more glossy finish.

Yep, as posted above, either part-ex it and get a white car or wrap it. Changing the colour of the car will cost a lot of money to do properly and it will make it harder to sell on too as rightly or wrongly, some people are put off by a colour change. If you want to keep the car, your best bet would be to get it wrapped instead.

Defo get it wrapped mate. My uncles just had his phantom wrapped in white (was black) and looks fantastic. Protects the paint underneath an is a lot cheaper than a respray.

Yep I understand how big of a job it is. I have a friend who has a large bodyshop who has given me a pretty good deal. Happy to show after pics when it is done.
I have seen mineral white and im not too sure I like it as much as Alpine White. |

Easy - Mineral White all day long. Much nicer than plain old flat white with it's metallic flakes. Job done .

I've owned an Alpine white and mineral white BM and neither really give a satisfying feeling when you clean them. Because they have no really depth of shine, it's not very rewarding to spend time waxing them.
Mineral white is very subtle, but does look fantastic when the sun shines. If done correctly MW is very technical to apply and needs to be built up in several layers. I’d have thought it cost more then AW? Personally I'd have a black roof with either option. MW AW |

Lots of AW around, not many MW.. My previous E90 was fully resprayed to AW from being black and the guy who owned it previously did a fantastic job, but it ALWAYS rings alarm bells come time to sell and you will put off many interested parties even if it is a car with not even a hair line scratch.
Wrap it or if you absolutely must repsray, mineral white all day long! Pics !!! |

They may look different in flash, but in photos Alpine White is way better than mineral white.
Mineral white is looking dull.

Of the two OEM choices I'd definitely go for Alpine White but as someone else has posted, I don't think either of the BMW white's are that stunning. if I was going to the bother of getting the whole car resprayed, I'd go for a different white altogether, maybe one with a deeper luster or pearl effect.

Why respray to another off the shelf BMW colour?
IMO I would look at all cars, and base my colour choice on that TBH. Choose wisely

I know many people who wouldn't touch a resprayed car with a barge pole, me included so he may as well get it done in a decent colour as he is going to get shafted anyway. In for a penny...

Alpineweiss - 1981 -1989 Alpineweiss 2 1989 - 1993 Alpineweiss 3 1994 - present Paint codes: Alpineweiss - 146 Alpineweiss 2 - 218 Alpineweiss 3 - 300 I've now had 2 alpine white BMWs....I looked hard at mineral white this time but it really didn't interest me. It really just smacks of BMW getting annoyed that so many people are choosing white and not paying extra for a metallic finish. Personally if I was respraying a car I would consider using Ford Frozen white. My Dad has just bought a new Focus in that colour and it is the brightest, whitest white I've ever seen on a car, I really like it. (The colour not the car!) |
