Clicking noise in steering rack.

Recently installed a set of down pipes on my 07 e92. Loosened my steering rack to get more space to reach bolts and such. Once I put everything back, I now get a clicking / clunky noise when I turn the steering wheel midway from lock to lock once the car is back on the ground. Any ideas?

Do you mean you loosened the rack from the subframe or the shaft?

Saw this on a buddies car and it was because the 2 bolts that hold the steering rack to the subframe were loose.

Every time this happens it's the steering rack bolt and nut that attaches the rack to subframe are not tightened enough to spec.

Happened to myself to.
